"How do I get to Amazon.com?" |
|
Believe it or not, this is a question that someone asked my mother! (Isn't it sort of like asking, "How do you call 555-1234" :P)
Mom doesn't have a lot of experience with the Internet, but I've tutored her in the past, so she has a working knowledge of it. Besides, she knows how to "Google" so she can get around just fine. :-)
Anyway, she replied, "Just type Amazon.com in the browser and go."
The person said, "But how do you get on it?" (Note from Batty ... WTF???)
Mom replied, "What do you mean? Once you're there, you just look for what you want. That's how my daughter does it - she does all my online shopping for me. I don't know what else to tell you."
The person said, "I'll ask someone else."

In the past, this person has criticized my Mom's computer skills, which made the question even more amusing! (By the way ... I'm my mom's computer tutor. She can use the Internet, send email, do word processing in Word, and design basic spreadsheets and tables in Excel - that's all she ever needs to do at home or at work, so her skills are fine. :-))
A toast to my mom for getting it right! :toast:

7. At first I resisted the whole idea. |

I found the very notion of a unified symbol for atheism to be very offensive. After all, it is not an ideology, and the existence of a symbol implies one.
But there are odd little places where I think a symbol has uses in a negative sense, as mentioned in the article. For instance, Christians often decry the lack of crosses and other Christian symbols on or in government buildings on the argument that the lack of Christian symbols implies government promotion of atheism. If we have a symbol, then we can say "If they get their cross, we get our symbol on the government building also," and if they pull the above ridiculous argument, we can say "I don't see our symbol on that building, so it doesn't represent us."

4. You also have to write "Amazon.com" on the side of a paper bag |
|
and stand on it, that way they know it's really you.
