Poll question: Do the words "Aeric Halaquept" mean anything to you? |
|
How about "Typic Argiudoll?"
Xeralfic Petrocalcid?
Sapric Glacistel?
Yes, my friends, it's time to test the Lounge's knowledge of soil taxonomy.
So do you know your soil taxonomy???

Let me try to pick this name apart...
Is it an iron-rich, acidic soil? Am I close?
Or is it something to do with salts?

6. Definitely NOT acidic... |
|
pH of over 12 on the surface!
Hint: It's derived from lacustrine lake sediments.

You should've left the link!
I'm searching the NRCS's website for the soil description...but I haven't found anything yet.
I mean...I'm not looking...

10. Go to the series descriptions |
|
and enter "YOBE."
It says the pH of the surface horizon was 9.4, but that's BS. We tested it, and there was essentially baking soda caked on the surface.
