My cable modem is NOT fried...turns out, my son and his friend were screwing around with some stuff plugged into the same surge protector as the cable modem, and apparently had accidentally unplugged it. He just discovered it about an hour ago, and it is now fixed.

Now I get to call the cable company and cancel the service call!
