Now that the Olympics are over: Who was the Olympic Hero? Olympic Zero?
Olympic Hero: Definately Joey Cheek. Not only did he donate his $25,000 bonus for winning the Gold Medal to charity, he encouraged other winners to do the same. And it ends up something like $400k was donated to charity

Olympic Zero: Definately Bode Miller - enjoy obscurity. Your Nike Contract will be dropped like spoilt goods pretty soon!

Second place for Olympic Zero would be NBC for once again giving us the worst coverage EVER again!. Please, you're losing ratings with your coverage and probably some money to boot. Please stop covering the Olympics and allow someone else to give it a shot. Hell, I think even Fox could do a better job covering the Olympics and that's saying alot!

2. Same picks
I would add the US alpine skier who hurt herself rather badly and still skied in other events -- the name has escaped me... begins with a "K." She's a runner-up hero.

7. That's the same for the Chinese Pairs Figure Skaters
That poor gal slammed her hip into the ice and still managed to finish off the performance and grab a silver medal.

Much less go on to skate a medal-winning performance!

4. Joey Cheek- homegrown here in NC !!
Proud to claim him.

Zero- B-0-0-0-0-0-de. Second- the "feud" between Hedrick and Davis; third- Lindsey Jacobellis and her "caught up in the moment" moment that cost her the gold in snowboard cross.

6. Bode reminds of those Dan and Dave Reebok commercials in the 90's
Maybe Bode should lay off the sauce when he's competing.

8. Heroic: Rena Inoue and John Baldwin, for doing what the Russians never did
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 11:28 AM by bob_weaver
Rena Inoue and John Baldwin of the U.S. performed the first-ever throw triple axel in the Olympics, something that the endlessly decorated Russian/Soviet pairs have NEVER done, despite being showered with gold medals since time began. Also Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao of China for picking up after a disastrous fall in the long program and after a recovery period, continuing their skate and ending up with the silver medal. That was also pretty damned heroic.

14. I think Miller must have been stoned or something
because I have never seen that level of "who cares anyway, I gotta good life" in an athlete. Well, maybe Rickie Williams.

Hero? Hmmm. I kind of liked the Flying Tomato, Dude.

21. Another Hero
Shaun White, aka il Pomodoro Volante aka the Flying Tomato!

Unlike a lot of Olympic athletes in their interviews just after winning, he wasn't full of the same, "Oh I knew I'd win," BS. He was overjoyed in the most genuine way I've ever seen. When the national anthem played, he was crying. It was great to see a "favorite" who actually seemed completely humbled.

Another semi-hero: Scott McCartney. He was on the US ski team, and had to fight his way on in the first couple of days. I add him, because I went to highschool with him, and I just hope he punches Bode Miller in the teeth :-)

23. Agreed - Definitely Joey Cheek
Honorable mention to the figure skater from Turkey (her name escapes me at the moment, I'm sorry) - I know her first name is Tugba. She was there all by herself; her parents weren't even there to watch her skate. :(

Zeroes - Bode Miller and Chad Hedrick. And I agree with you about NBC. Thanks for all the ads. :eyes:
