Drugs arrest for George Michael
BBC Monday, 27 February 2006, 00:46 GMT
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4753792.stm

Singer George Michael has been arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs in London's West End.

"We were called by a member of the public to a man seen slumped over the steering wheel of a car on the street close to Hyde Park Corner." a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

--wake me up before you go go, indeed.

5. In the UK there are 3 classes of illegal drugs - A, B & C
"A" includes heroin (& other opiates), coke, acid & ecstacy.
"B" includes amphetamines & barbiturates (and until quite recently cannabis).
"C" includes steroids, tranquilizers, cannabis & (recently) ketamine.

and the punishment for possession or dealing varies depending on the class of drug (the rough theory being that Class A drugs are more harmful therefore the crime is worse).

There's recently been a push by the media & the right to get cannabis regraded to Class B, with regard to research linking its useage to mental health problems, but I personally can't see that happening in the short term (unless the Tories get back in at the next election).
