1. I think for balance
They should throw in some of the Three's Company episodes he was in. :-)

Knotts was a comic genius. With him and The Old Man gone, it's a sadder world.

6. But think of the contrast!
I love Barney, and think that will always be his best role. But I liked Mr. Furley too. He had that same self-delusion about being a swinger the way Barney did about being a great lawman. :hi:

8. True ...

I love both characters.

TVLand did the Three's Company marathon thing right after Ritter died, and it became a regular show for awhile. The episodes with Furley in them are my favorites, one of those rare cases when I like a show better in its later years than I did in the beginning. The Ropers never did it for me. Their joke never had any variation on it.

The problem with Three's Company as a Don Knotts tribute, though, is that the producers never seemed to let him go all out. They wanted to showcase Ritter, of course, for the the slapstick part, and everything Knotts did was a setup for that, at least in my memory. This wasn't a problem in the show, really, but it doesn't show Knotts at his best, imo.

I do wish they'd show some of the "Man in the Street" things Knotts did, assuming they still exist. I haven't seem even a clip of them in ages and only vaguely recall them at all, but what I remember was hilarious.

I still want to find No Time for Sergeants. Knotts' very small role in that had me rolling the first time I saw it.

4. Wish they'd show some Kolchak: The Night Stalker, too.
Not a good week for classic TV fans.

Ya know what's sad ... well, I dunno if it's sad or just weird, but I got the first four seasons of TAGS on DVD for Christmas. Been waiting for some stupid legal battle with the copyright on the Fishin' Hole theme song to play itself out so they could actually be sold for years, and it finally happened. Anyway, that's pretty much all I've watched the last couple days.

And I'll be watching the marathon too, just because.

OnEdit: Saw an interview with Andy Griffith this morning on some talk show. He was with Don right before he died, and it was just heart-wrenching to listen to him talk about it. I'm glad that unlike so many on-screen friendships, theirs was a real friendship off the screen too. Makes me feel a little less psychotic for letting a silly television show and a character in it affect me so.
