Ann Rule's blog is a mighty fine read, if you like to read about crime

sample excerpt:

I really had fun this week--something I haven't had for a few months now. The American Academy of Forensic Science in America, Canada, England--and more--met in Seattle this week for their yearly convention. Everyone who is ANYBODY in real life forensic science was here--not the fictional CSI people, but the REAL DEAL: Michael Baden, former Medical Examiner of New York City, Henry Lee, the ace criminalist, Rod Englert, arguably the top blood spatter expert in America, Bill Haglund and all the Green River Killer experts, Kathy Reichs, author of seven forensic anthropolgy novels, judges, forensic odontologists, Medical Examiners, DNA experts, criminalists who specialize in hairs and fibers, blood, crime scenes, etcs. I probably knew about 60 % of them, and met a lot more. This is where I learn, and where I can also teach. Thursday, I had to get up at 4:30 a.m. for our breakfast panel--and I am NOT a morning person, not before 10 a.m. but we had a lively panel. Last night, I had dinner with nine of the most interesting convention participants. It was really exhilirating for me! Next, it's San Antonio (one of my favorite cities) in February, 2007. It is really something to be with people you respect and who understand this crazy field of human aberrance in terms of violence. Surprisingly, we have a lot of fun and laugh a lot, too.

One interesting revelation: there is no such thing as "shaken baby syndrome." To find an infant with profound brain injuries, it would take a lot more than "shaking;" sadly, the infant would have to suffer a broken neck to have that much damage. So a lot of babysitters are blamed for what may have been injuries dealt by the parents.
