So to answer the question of many eighth graders, some people do actually use this stuff when they grow up.

Nobody cool does, though.

18. 8th grade math is probably 10-11th grade math these days
have to try later....

When I give achievemement tests, I always make sure I know all the answers before I give em to the kids. Only seems fair.

19. I got 9 out of 10 but it's really more a matter of remembering what
the symbols mean (which were actually a bit different than the way they were taught to me in 8th grade) than actually understanding math.

I would need a refresher course on the terms it has been along time since I had to know that information.

25. I teach 8th grade math and this
is covered in our first two months. 8th grade math is Algebra 1. up to quadratic equations.
What the state I work in has required for kids is way above what it used to be. I think, frankly, it is also way over most of their heads. They learn it as a splinter skill without an understanding. MHO.

back when I went to school (question #8). Also I don't remember any mention of mode or standard deviation back then. Lastly, I forgot the prime # vs integer etc. thingy.

29. Yeah...but I had to teach this stuff twenty years ago.
Not math, but chemistry, which required the same basic algebraic manipulations. Teach it five times a day, and you can do it in your sleep.

Makes sense, since I failed math repeatedly throughout my school years. Only ever succeeded when I went into home schooling and could somewhat take my time to understand it. :P
