What do they call a late-night shift at the graveyard? |
|
I bet graveyard workers get such endless crap from their friends.

3. to prevent grave-robbing and body snatching |
|
there was a time when it was ILLEGAL for medical schools to use bodies for teaching anatomy
the schools would resort to paying people to bring in bodies. an easy source for bodies were graveyards. the "entrepreneurs" would go to a graveyard late at night where someone had just been buried, dig them up and sell it to the schools
it was quite the business. so families of the newly deceased would camp out at the graveyard and guard it through the night for a few weeks until the body was sufficiently decomposed and therefore no longer "useful" by the schools. It became known as the graveyard shift.

4. graveyards are interesting |
|
if you think you aren't scared of the dark......drive to one of these private graveyards 100 miles from the nearest town with pop 1,000. Sit there for a while in the dark. You will all of the sudden develop remarkable hearing and night vision.
