I want a kitty, but I have to wait!

I am not sure about when we are moving, and I feel I should wait until after we move.

1. The kitty mommy in me says
Don't wait! Why deprive yourself of all the furbaby love??? The pragmatist in me, however, supports your wisdom in waiting. It was VERY traumatic for my 2 babies when we moved. It took them weeks to get over it.

Best of luck in your new home and in finding the perfect furbaby!!

2. I am sure all will go well.
I do not want to put a kitty through the stress of a cross country move.

4. Particularly if you're planning to drive!
Mine scream at the top of their lungs for anything more than a 2 minute trip. Needless to say, we don't travel with kitties unless absolutely necessary. And unfortunately, neither of them tolerate sedatives well.

11. My poor kitties drove 3,000 miles in the car.
We built them a big "kitty condo" so they could move around w/out us having to worry about them jumping out of the car at gas stations, etc. The male seemed happy as a clam. The female needed to be sedated. She would get her little kitty drugs in the morning (a fraction of a pill, as I recall) and then basically she curled up, glassy-eyed, in the litter box and slept. They did have a break because we stayed in Colorado for a few months before moving on to Oregon.

14. Egads! The longest trip we've ever taken with them
was about 200 miles. The only thing that calmed them (for a total of about 15 minutes) was when I passed through an area that had a great jazz radio station. They love jazz music, and quit crying just long enough to hear a song or two - then I lost the station. I didn't have a CD player in that car - will never make that mistake again!!

18. Hey, you have my cats!
We have figured out that our yowler (female, 6.5 pound Siamese with enough attitude for three cats) will STFU if we have Bill Bryson's audiobooks playing... she likes that voice. She also seems to like Nadia May, so it may be that she likes English accents. (Bryson's books are read by Richard Matthews.)

But she hates with a hot passion anything read by Scott Brick. Who knew?

When we give her drugs, she just gets weirder - I think she hallucinates.

We're not moving again till she dies, and I'm moving her to a vet that's 3 blocks away.

5. Just a trip to the vet is enough for my guys.
I put them in a pet carrier and I was afraid one of the guys was going to loose his claws clawing at the gate. They were not happy campers.

15. Mine will take a crap in her pet carrier when we go to the vet.
I think she saves up for it.

3. I had to wait too...
when I was job hunting. I had one cat, who obviously needed a mate, but I knew I'd be moving within the next few months. Then I felt I needed to wait until the cat got used to his new surroundings. So...about 6 months after I first wanted a kitten, I got one and it's working out great. :)

6. I want a kitty as well but I have to wait until I......
....take care of some other obligations first. Believe me the wait is not easy because I am a pet person all the way, so not having a furry friend around really gets to me. I know the day will come though when I will come carrying the cutiest little fur ball home and will love the little thing from that day forward.:loveya:

So we might have to wait for now but try to understand that once you get that little furry friend the laughs and cuddling will be forever.O8)

7. Very true
I do not want to put the furball through more than it needs to go through as far as adjustments...

8. I am with you on this, my dear KitchenWitch!
Moving a very long distance is hard on cats, and this will be VERY long!

There are many cats, unfortunately, out here that need rescuing.....

Waiting is smart, IMHO!

How are you today?

I hope your back is better......

Have you been in GDP yet? WCGreen has a terrific thread over there...

:loveya:

10. I understand...
I've wanted a cat for...years now.

But, our financial situation isn't great, and where we live now, in addition to a pet deposit, we'd have to pay an extra $25/month, per cat. And we really want 2.

Someday...

12. take the Quaker stance on this - "proceed as the way opens"
If a kitty finds you before the move, don't resist!

If no kitty finds you, then wait until you move to actively find yourself a kitty to love...

19. I think you're wise
It's hard enough for them to adjust to a new family. Will you be getting a kitten, or adopting an older cat?

20. Not sure...
The selfish part of me wants a kitten, but if the right older cat (one who likes children) were to be needing a home, I would not turn it down...after the move that is.

21. Sometimes kittens need to be placed too...
Maybe you could be finding out about cats for adoption in the area where you're moving. Humane Society has listings online. :)

22. Since you have to wait until you move....
(& I agree that's a good idea)

You really deserve two kitties! They do keep each other company.
