3. i know who i think should win
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 06:53 PM by Ava
but i also know who most likely will win. IMO the oscars and other award shows are over-rated.

for example... why did LOTR win so many awards?

every year seems to have a theme of winners. this year it is gay movies (i'm not saying anything is wrong with them i'm just saying there were many movies this year that deserve awards over Brokeback mountain)

6. Munich, Hoffman, Witherspoon, Giametti, Weisz
I will throw up if Crash wins best pic. I'm also a bit uneasy as I feel that BBM will probably take picture and screenplay and probably director when I really feel that Munich was a stronger film all around in those three categories.

Clooney a shoe-in for original screenplay.

7. It's tough this year. It's very hard to choose
I think there were tons of great films and great performances this year.

Here's my personal picks:

Good Night and Good Luck
David Straithairn (I didn't see Capote or I'd probably pick PSH)
Reese Witherspoon
Paul Giamatti
RAchel Weisz

10. I haven't seen BMt. or Capote, so I am going to say what I think
based on what I have seen and others that I have spoken to who have seen the ones I have missed. The movie, Good Night, Good Luck, is one awesome movie. I would probably chose it for the movie. Straithorn was marvelous as Murrow. Joaquin Phoenix was Johnny Cash. He and Reece Witherspoon sang their own songs, which in my book raises their performance into the ether. Phoenix had the perfect Cash voice; he looked just like Cash in many of the scenes. Friends that I have talked to think the singing raises Phoenix over Capote. My daughter who has seen Brokeback and Walk the Line says that Phoenix had a more demanding role and did a lot with it. My two cents!

12. But here's some analysis...
Best Pic: There's talk of upset by Crash over BBM. Although I'd still go with BBM--from what I've seen so far it's a winner--beautifully acted, directed, written and overall well-made despite the "gay cowboy" label. Crash, I've heard but not seen yet, is good but not really good to be even nominated Best Pic so I'm told. Capote is good but not that compelling or too involving. GN&GL is good but not much impact although does resonate with what America is going through right now. Munich, have yet to see, but the Jewish/Palestinian conflict is what probably turns a lot of people off. Money on BBM.

Best actor: Ledger made this role his very own and really blew me over. PSH in Capote is wonderful but I think Ledger is just better. Phoenix is also wonderful as Cash but the emphasis for Oscar gold is more focus on Reese than Joaquin. Strathairn is good as Murrow but kinda too one note and dour. Have not seen Hustle & Flow yet but Terence has a chance if all other performances split the votes and upset win occurs from Mr. Howard. Could happen.

Best Actress: Tight race between Reese & Felicity--edge going to Reese. She actually sang and not bad either. Plus transgender was honored years ago to Ms. Swank.

Best Supporting Actor: Although I want Gyllenhaal to win..the "consolation prize" vote goes to Giamatti for the academy failing to give him a nod for "Sideways". But Clooney may spoil it all.

Best Supporting actress: Ms. Williams gets my vote and she might get it just to give BBM bunch an acting prize as well. But Ms. Weisz will probably come out the winner--the academy would probably want to spread the gold around to other non Best Pic nominees.
