Poll question: Help Velma pick a chick flick |
|
It doesn't happen very often but I'm the mood for a chick flick tonight. Feel like some tears and catharsis. So, which of my meager collection of chick flicks (I tend more toward scifi and shoot 'em ups) should I pull out and watch?

Practical Magic. It's fantastic, funny, sensitive, and very uplifting.

I didn't know we were talking about a limited collection. Can you go by a video rental place? Once you see this movie, you'll want to own it for next time.

This movie never fails to cheer me up when I'm in a chick flick kind of mood. I Loooooove the scene right after they tell him she loves him!! It just proves what women have known all along. ;-)

9. That film is always a roller coaster for me |
|
I get so angry at the way they treat poor Hero. If I was her I'd tell them all to kiss my ass and I SO would not take that guy back after he was such a butthead.
But then it's so funny in places and witty and articulate. :-)

Most of my favorite movies are chick flicks. Notting Hill, You've Got Mail, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Mickey Blue Eyes, and a few others that I can't think of are amongst my faves. I suppose chick flicks are my big guilty pleasure or something...
Edit: Oh, I voted for The American President. I loved that movie :)

I think it's sweet. My best guy friend in the whole world loves chick flicks too. He has Steel Magnolias memorized and we sat up and watched Shakespeare in Love the last time he was here. Went and saw Love Actually with me too. He's a great guy. And so are you. :-) I promise that being "in touch with your feelings" and all that girly stuff will serve you well later on in life.
Oh, and I love The American President...which is why it's one of the few "chick flicks" I actually own.

It's good. Hugh Grant is definitely charming, in a needy sort of way, and actually quite intelligent. And Much Ado... was actually enjoyed by my family one evening! My son may have been twelve. I was totally surprised.
The Thin Man movies with Wm. Powell and the GREAT Myrna Loy have been a favorite since ....I was very young. :D Myrna Loy and Katherine Hepburn are the best, by far. Pick a movie, any movie they are in and it will be great. And Sandra Bullock does quite well in the chick flick genre. My personal favorite is Practical Magic. But the book is much better.
Also, An Ideal Husband, and all those old English movies like Jane Eyre, that some of you may think are sexist or ...something.

15. Normally I'd agree... |
|
that too much is made out of the differences between men and women. I own a bookcase full of dvds and videos with lots of explosions and spaceships in them that disprove the idea that certain movies ONLY appeal to one gender or the other.
However, I do think that the studio execs think that way and tonight I want to watch one of those movies they think are "chick flicks" and have a good cry.

1. Ghost World.
Cried my eyes out. Of course, I identified with Buscemi.
You'll cry, too. Well, maybe.
Deep down inside, all men identify with Buscemi.
2. My First Mister
OK, this one's a little more painful than Ghost World, but don't knock GW, either. It's more painful because death is involved with My First Mister -- Actually, it's Death, Leelee Sobieski, and that comedian who changed his name from Albert Einstein to Albert Brooks.
3. Anything with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in it.
Because they're so darn cute and life is so f**king ugly.
Remember, the term Catharsis and the name Cathy come from the same word.

You want the Jennifer Jason Leigh version, not the version with Jesse Helms in it.
One seriously painful movie to watch.
Excellently acted and produced, too, so it's probably in the $5 bin at the local Scab-Mart.

a minor film, but it has great gender politics, Mexican Mushrooms, "real" magic and will make you love Russ if you hated him before--
second? well it's a bad movie, but I ADORE Hugh Jackman in anything: "Kate and Leopold"

Has Debra Winger, Shirley Mclaine plays her mother, and Jack Nicholson plays a playboy astronaut that lives next door to Mclaine.

that Red Violin wasn't getting more votes. I fell in love with the soundtrack to that movie first - actually heard it when Michelle Kwan used it for her free skating music a few years ago. *blushes*
