Help needed! Hot water furnace question
We have a hot water furnace and we just heard a loud noise in the basement. We went downstairs, and found water on the floor all around the furnace.

From what we can tell, the pressure relief valve kicked. This has never happened before a few weeks ago. It doesn't happen every time the furnace kicks on, but it has happened a few times now.

Any suggestions on what to do short of calling the funace repair people?

Thanks in advance,
JM

1. Make sure all the valves are open
That can lead to a build up of pressure which can blow the valve. Or the valve could be bad.

Do you still have hot water?

3. Water is hot...
...and all the radiators are heating up.

It looks like it just popped then closed. THere was a spurt of water, then it stopped. Pipes are all hot.

Later,
JM

5. We have a Heating and Air Conditioning Business....hubby says
Problem is likely one of 2 things. 1. Thermostat on the boiler is bad and is letting the temperature build up too high, thus causing the valve to release or 2. Water regulator that allows water to come in is leaking causing water to build up too high in the boiler tripping the valve.

Hope this helps!

6. waterproof your basement. then...
get some lawn chairs, jimmy buffett cd's and some faux palm trees.

start charging admission fees to lounge around in the hot water and the world's your oyster!

7. Move to Austin, it was 80 today.
Very annoying when the AC goes out, though.

Yeah, I'm not a lot of help, I know.
