Snowboarder Headed To Jail For Speeding
Of course, crashing into a ski patroller and breaking his leg didn't help matters much.

1. gah
i could see a case for civil court but this is insane.

i wonder whats next..built in speedometers for your snowboard, speed traps, a skiing license, loading zones, skipool lanes...
in any other sport accidents happen, but here: instead of getting a flag waved, you get handcuffed.
imagine if everytime a football player accidently ran into a ref someone got sent to jail.

what about the people on a black diamond trail going half a mile an hour who cause serious accidents just by being in the way? dont you think a car driver going one mile an hour in the fast lane of a 70 mile an hour zone would get a ticket?...it only makes sense.

yah the kid broke the rules and someone got seriouslly hurt, but there isnt a law against speeding on your snowboard. if this is going to be the case i demand the ski resort industry offer free ski/snowboarding classes and free lessons on the rules and laws of ski play.

skiing and snowboarding is a dangerous sport you asume that risk when you are on the slope...it is my opinion that the judge should be disbarbed for lack of common sense.

2. I used to do security for a ski mountain...
In addition to moving the money around, fraudulent passes, etc., we'd visit every collision to get statements. There are a lot of collisions....

Hitting a patroller is pretty egregious, true; mostly in that many mountains use ski patrol in tandem with security to get violators! (sort of like rear-ending a cop)....although if you really want to become public enemy number one, hit a kid and ski off. I never saw a manhunt so all-encompassing as a time that happened.

Colorado has a pretty refined and fierce system for dealing with skier safety violations. I'm pleased to see a reckless person getting jail time, actually. Advice from someone with experience: if you mess up in Colorado, save your lawyer money. You're hosed.
