Damn. Now I need a Kosher Mexican Coke. In a glass bottle.

All I've ever known is corn syrup Coke. I grew up with it as a child, and fell hard for it as a teenager. Course times were simpler then, but corn syrup Coke fulfilled all my soda pop needs, and I was smitten.

Oh, corn syrup Coke wasn’t perfect, I know. We worked through some rough times over the years, my Coke and me. I overlooked Coke’s “youthful indiscretions” with narcotics in the early days. I supported Coke through various incarnations while it “tried to find itself”… Old Coke, New Coke, Lime Coke, Coke Zero... I sang the jingles, played the games inside the plastic caps. I celebrated when my Coke won the taste tests, and once I even bought a sweatshirt with “Coca-Cola” emblazoned across the chest, so devoted was I to my sweet Coke.

“Sweet.” Ha ha. Oh, corn syrup Coke was sweet all right. Sweet in a slick, commercialized sort of way. Sweet in a way that cared more about my money than my affection. Sweet in a way that seemed so real to a small town girl like me.

But time has a way of tempering life. Corn syrup Coke had to know that one day I would discover the truth, the truth that there is a better Coke waiting for me out there… somewhere. A tall, dark, handsome Coke every bit as alluring… but with integrity; a Coke with the energy and passion that can come only from Real Sugar.

Now that your artifice has been exposed, our destiny is clear: Goodbye, corn syrup Coke. I understand now that our relationship was nothing more than a clever marketing scheme for you. You delighted me as a little girl, and enchanted me as a starry-eyed teenager. But I am a woman now, a good measure older and a little bit wiser; a woman of taste and of class who deserves better than the second-rate sweetness you offer.

Yes, it has come to this. It is time for me to claim my glory. Fare thee well, old corn syrup Coke. Now I am holding out for…

the real Real Thing.

7. Honestly, I didn't even realize there was a difference

...until that "stuff you loved that you can't get anymore" thread. But now that I think about it... I remember that sometimes, drinking Coke as a kid made my teeth feel like they were wooden. If you know what I mean. Now was THAT the real sugar Coke?

You can find it in Texas sometimes, and if not, Mexico isn't too far away. :D

Just curious. I assume by "rodeo" you're talking about the sport?

24. Okay, I can explain.

Flvegan and I are both big animal rights activists/supporters. We consider rodeos to be a source of animal cruelty. Coke is a big rodeo sponsor, so Flvegan was giving me a hard time for promoting Coke in my post since Coke, in turn, promotes animal cruelty by sponsoring rodeos.

That's all.
