My mouse rescue, Snack, just died. |

I don't know why I'm so upset. It's a mouse. Given how young it was when I started hand-feeding it, I know that it didn't have a good chance. He seemed to be doing really good though. He was crawling around on me a couple hours ago. He was growing and getting his fur. I know that I originally purchased him as food. It's actually hitting me pretty hard.
I'm normally good about detaching myself from animals I'm hand-feeding. I once had a nearly weaned bird die of aspiration *IN MY HAND*. I know how many things can go wrong beyond my control. And I'm crying over this stupid little mouse, that I bought as gecko food. It must have just happened, because it's body is still warm. I'm burying the little guy in my yard tommorow.
On edit: Oddly enough, my Dwarf Frog which has been MIA for the last month, is suddenly out and about in it's fish tank. Where the hell did it hide for so long in a 5g tank containing 2 corydoras catfish, a dwarf gourami, 2 plants, and a plastic castle? At least the frog is doing good.

I've always been a sucker for animals. I get along with them better than most people and half the time my friend's pets are better with me than their owners.

12. We had the same reaction when Houdini passed on to Mouse Valhalla |
|
he was a replacement for Skweeker, a white mouse I had a classroom pet at the early learning center, that I took home after changing jobs because he nibbled on one of the kids. All in all Skweeker lived about two years, lost an eye to some infection, but hung on for like six months after that. We got Houdini just after Skweeker 's funeral (little box in trashcan). Houdini used to sneak out of his cage and hide in Mrs. McLargehuge's leather glove.
Then, one day he was playing around happily, then nothing.
Houdini wasn't with us long enough to warrant an ornate funeral (mouse carcass in trashcan), but we missed him anyway.
