1. Three more days.
:woohoo:

:bounce:  :toast: :D

I'm skipping class. Opening day comes only once a year.

2. You gonna skip on the 10th, too?
For the Cardinals' home opener?

Tell 'em I'm pissed they released Jeff Nelson. :grr:

4. I know...
Lots of us Cards fans aren't too happy about that. :scared:

Skipping on the tenth is a big possibility, too. I haven't skipped this class at all this semester, so barring a test or something, it's definitely tempting.

6. I knew Nelson when he pitched A-ball
in 1987. He and Colette got married on the field before a game. I was the wedding photographer.

3. Opening Day oughta be declared a national holiday
Hell, there's a holiday for damn near everything else...I want Opening Day.

Why do I always have to think of these things? Why don't they just listen to me...it'd save everyone so much trouble...sheeeeeesh.

5. I know; shouldn't it?
I know that in grade school and high school, no one did any work on opening day anyway. The teachers just turned on the game and let us watch.

7. I know I ain't doing shit on Monday
I'm cleaning house on Sunday afternoon...even if I have to wrap the kids in Glad-wrap and stack 'em like firewood to keep it that way. I'm running my errands tomorrow morning. Anything else can wait until Tuesday.

Friday's locked up, too. Home opener.

Against the Cards.

:hi:

8. We got to watch the '67 Series at school
That was sixth grade. I don't remember watching any of the '65 or '66 Series in school, but I know I saw a lot of 'em, so I guess I musta been sick, huh?

10. It's that pesky bug that always seems to hit around
that time of year.

Seems to last about a week, give or take.

12. Used to last a week
Then in the late '60s the virus mutated into a more powerful form that lasted about two weeks. And in the '90s it mutated again, and now it's about three.

Oddly, no one at CDC seems very concerned.

14. And this surprises you, darlin'?
The CDC's in Atlanta.

Braves are in Atlanta.

They've usually all got it, too. Or are hoping to get it.

They're too sick to be concerned.

13. Remember when the season opened in Cincinnati
and that was the only game on Monday, honoring Cincinnati as the birthplace of professional baseball? Everybody else started on Tuesday.

I liked that tradition.

15. Cubs are playing the Reds
In Cincinnati on Monday. It's not the only game, though. And this year, it's not even the early game...a 12:05 start (mountain time).

To get my hands on Wrigley home opener tickets...probably all but impossible to get.

One day though...one day.

Opening Day, June, September... I don't care. I just wanna be in that yard before I die.

In the bleachers. :bounce:

23. As a Red Sox fan...
...2004 was enough. Really--if they never win another Series in my lifetime, I'll be content now...especially that incredible Yankee LCS...just wish my Mom and Dad could have seen it...I'm a third-generation--at least--Sox fan...my great-uncle used to tell me stories of the 1912 World Series, when Tris Speaker beat Mathewson and McGraw's Giants...and stories of a young pitcher named babe Ruth...
To be honest, I'd really like to see teams like the Pirates, Royals, Brewers, and Tigers--the also-rans--start their climbs to the top...and I think at least the Brewers and Royals will start this year... Also: if Bonds is even 75% of his real self, the Giants win the NL West...but I don't think he will be...:-(...

25. He won't be.
The only reason he's playing at all, I think (and this is just my opinion), is to pass Babe Ruth. He's what...six or seven away? And once he's done that, I suspect he's gonna retire. Even if it's mid-season.
