I saw my first fireflies of the season last night. I think they're way

early here in Central Arkansas. I think it was May last year. Anyway, I'll bet these overwintered. It would be neat to see many times the normal number, but it wouldn't be right. You know?

1. I think firefly is a lot prettier than "lightning bug" which is what we

called them growing up.

2. I like "firefly" , too. It has more of a Midsummer Night's Dream

quality to it, imo. It's all funny, though, because they are not flies or "bugs" strictly speaking, they are beetles. Bug is used specifically for a type of insect, by the way. Anyway....."bio-luminescent flying beetles" would probably be more correct but I still like firefly.
