Heaviest thing you've ever lifted?` |
|
So, I brought a TV that had to be ~150 lbs. from the first story of one house to the second story of another house ~400 feet away.
May not seem like much, but then again, I AM 5'9, 170. :D

5. Around 80 pounds at work a couple of times |
|
Before I lost a bunch of weight. I've lifted a little more than that in the weight room but 80 pounds was the heaviest object that I actually lifted off the ground, walked a ways, and set down somewhere by myself. Now I struggle to lift 50 pounds (half my weight), even though people seem amazed than I am lifting even that. I feel like I've a little weakling. As my dietician said, as I gain weight, I should think of myself as getting stronger not fatter.

I think your dietician is right on the money... I hear ya about feeling weak, though. I've lost a lot of muscle mass and strength over the last 5 years, and I hate it!!

Hugs to you also. I've actually been doing alright with "getting stronger". It isn't always a straight path, but I am making progress.

I worked at a clothing store and some of those really big boxes of jeans have got to approach the 70-80lbs mark. Actually, I also used to work at a pet supply store and I once picked up three 40lb bags of cat litter at the same time. So that would be 120lbs. Almost killed me. :D

11. Well, my Great Dane weighs around 150 (single object) but every week |
|
on shoulder day, I carry a pair of 125 pound dumbells away from the rack to do shrugs with.
Dumbells, with their balance and handles, are much easier to carry than a tv or another cumbersome object, of course.
My Dane tried going through a window and slashed his foot. I thought nothing of literally curling him up into a fireman's carry to get him to the car to go to the vet.

Yup.. me and the 60 yo furnace installer hauled it into the house. Yes, there was a lot of dragging, but we did have to lift, shift and push it over a step in the cellar.
This was into the log home we built where I had been known to heft 8, 10 and 12 foot logs. I was 42 at the time and although not a petite female, I'm not an Amazon either. I truly believe in mind over matter.
Six years later my knees and hips cause me problems if I sit too long and I know it was because of building the house and that boiler.
Edited for additional comments, I should note that my son received the lineman of the year award for his region in football and has set two HS lifting records....must be the genes from him mom :)

15. 100 pound bags of grain |
|
Pretty regularly when I had horses. Bags of calcium chloride (to keep dust down on a road construction job) that weighed 110 pounds.
And the day I had my oldest daughter, I worked all day in my greyhound kennel. That day, I picked up three fifty pound boxes of meat and put them on top of my crates (about five feet up), dragged my feed table across the floor (about 300 pounds), and had to lift three dogs weighing 62, 65 and 70 pounds into their crates. All while I was in labor.
Then I went to the hospital and gave birth. I was 19 - what did I know?

Mind you I weighed 97 lbs. when I did this. I'm about 105 now and I don't think I could do it. I was absurdly strong when I was working as a grocery buyer.

19. Weight Training Class - 11th Grade |
|
I squatted 410lbs three times for the final test in the class. It should be noted that this was 1991, I was 16 and weighed about 140lbs of solid muscle.
I am no longer 16, this is not happening again any time soon (if ever). At the time though I was on the swim team and it did impress the hell out of the actual jocks who were in the class. They saw me put the weight on and thought the bar was going to break me in two.

I had to carry it through a peat bog up North. (Long story.)
Given that I weigh 130 lbs, and was wearing hip waders, it's a wonder I didn't kill myself.
