Our little parakeet died today
Her name was Lady, and she was approximately 11 years old. Liver failure appears to be what did her in.

ginbarn and I enjoyed hearing her chirp and sing (and occasionally squawk and screech). She was a good girl, and we'll miss her terribly.

Wish I had a photo to share with you - nothing digital, I'm afraid.

You gave her a good life for 11 years.

5. Thanks, guys
Took the wind out of our 6th anniversary, I tell you what.

But she was a special little budgie. We had three at one point (Lady, Petey, and Albert), and Lady was the last of the lot to go.

7. I'm sorry
I had several birds at one point and I just loved the sounds they made. Very soothing for the most part and they were great companions - I was surprised how good. I'd always had cats and dogs and didn't realize what great personalities birds could have.

I'm sorry you lost your friend. :(

10. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about Lady.
I love budgies. Liver problems are common in keets; I've lost some to that as well. That's great that you had her for 11 years; none of mine lived that long. It's so sad to lose your bird. I'm sure you have some great memories of her, and after the strong pain of the loss lightens, you'll be able to enjoy those memories.

16. It sounds like she had a great life.
I've had dogs and cats, but I've only really bonded with parrots. They're special creatures.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

17. Message from ginbarn
I religiously gave Lady her medicine. She was doing so well, and then she died during the night.

I wish I could get upset when she got mad at me for giving her medicine, but she was just so darn cute when she was angry.

We're having her cremated, and the plaque on her box will read:

Lady
The Amazing Poopakeet

She ate like a big bird, and she pooped like a big bird.

Thank you all for your kind words. It means a lot to me. :grouphug:

19. Must be a bad moon rising time for keets
Our parakeet, Virginia, left us Friday -- extreme old age apparently. She was a "you're bird people, would you take it?", so we suspect she was already on in years when we got her. It's odd how they can get next to you.

RIP, Lady and Ginny.
