So fair DU'ers what would be fair in this situation |

I posted a few days ago about some damage that was down in my house by some contractors. They cut my hallway runner while cutting tile or whatever. I didn't get much response, but consensus was that it was their responsibility and I should ask for them to pay. The carpet matches the area run in my living room. Of course, said rugs are no longer made. So really replacing the runner doesn't solve the problem, but creates a new one. FYI, these are relatively cheap rugs ($100 for the runner, $200-300 for the area rug). Should I ask for just the runner or the cost of both?

you won't get anything, this is contractors we're talking abt, so it's a moot point
you're out the rugs unless you're willing to take them to small claims court -- and even then they won't pay even if there is a judgement against them
so ask for whatever you like, heck, maybe you could catch one of them drunk and he'd try to settle by giving you $20 or so
but most likely the rugs are a lost cause my friend

This is a licensed, bonded, insured, BBB member in good standing with the State Boards and the BBB. What am I missing since I seem to be naive about this?
