Sopranos Discussion: What's up with last nights episode *Spoilers* |
|
Ok you have the gangsta rapper who was shot, the Quantum Physics guy, the fundamentalists (one wearing a Terri Schaivo shirt) and of course the only book available in the entire world about dinosaurs.
We covered Pharmacists being fired for not giving out Birth Control Pill (although Tony was pretty funny about the VIagra stuff) and INtelligent Design.
What happened to watching mobmen getting whacked each week? (Well Paulie did a knee whack at the end of this episode).
I like the concept of Tony being shot and watching the family struggle for power against the New York family (the whole thing with the Sanitation Routes being sold and Tony possibly losing his W2 was excellent).

1. Tony is reconsidering his life. |
|
I guess a near-death experience can do that to you.

and Paulie's facial expressions through the show were hysterical (after learning aunt was his mother)
Don't miss Big Love following....even better.

3. I love big love - Harry Dean Stanton makes that show |
|
And I'm hoping that Bill, Barb & Marjene toss Nicki out on her ass - $56k in debt. Damn!

4. Insurance companies didn't fare too well. |

Tony's drifting into existentialism?
Carmela's onto Vito which could be interesting.

Carmella's gonna take Vito down, I think. Between his jockeying for replacement boss, the money thing, and his creepy attraction to Finn, he's going down.

5. Yeah, Tony is paying attention to the meaning of life... |
|
...and his actions now. I agree, it's the near-death experience that made him take stock. I thought I was gonna puke from laughing so hard when Tony asked the minister about Viagra! I think it was a subtle jibe to the minister about choosing which medications to boycott. Tony thinks the evangelical nutjobs visiting him are indeed nutjobs, but they're causing him to think about his life.
Paulie's gonna be one of the next characters to get whacked. Dunno if it'll be Tony or one of his guys, or if Johnny Sack will order his killing.

7. I thought about it alot and I appreciate the 3 people that Tony met |
|
the gansta rappers represented Tony's current life while the fundamentalist & quantum physic guy showed Tony glimpses of other lives that he could choose. But I found it ironic that quantum physics guy was silenced in the end (he had his larnyx removed) which I suppose was a way of saying that this was not the life that Tony was going to take. So either he's reform (probably not fundy reform but just clean up his life) or stay in his current ways

8. That's a really cool assessment. |
|
It's all about choices, isn't it? Life choices, the anti-choice minister and the other protester, Aunt Dottie's choice to give Paulie to her sister, Vito's choice to screw Tony out of his cut of the huge haul, Bobby's choice to shoot the would-be rapper (and the rapper's choice to be shot), and a lot of others.

9. I've always had a problem with Carmella -- a mafia don's wife would |
|
never wrestle with her conscience the way she does. They would live the mafia life -- so steeped in it, its cut throat ways and materialism and that would be the end of it. They would share their husband's vigorous dislike for other racial groups (except of course the ones they do business with which they would tolerate) And for that matter the aforementioned notion that a NY/NJ mafia don would reconsider his moral center is perposterous. Though its just a TV show and a well crafted one at that, The Sopranos has done us all a misservice, making wiseguys and mooks cool again.

10. Carmella was never a typical mafia wife |
|
Silvio has the real mafia wife who pretty much thinks like her husband and last week was trying to push him to try and take control of the family

12. Exactly. No one would become a mafia don with a wife like that. |
|
She is too untraditional and a bad example to the other wives. While its a cool idea for a TV show to have such a hip version of a mafia wife -- it is too unrealistic for me.

can relate to Tony. Groom is a comedy writer part time. Don't feel comfortable talking about it here...but he's a very funny, charming and affectionate guy
