My hubby and I refer to Dentyne Ice and Dentyne Fire as "heroin gum" it's so addictive. It may be the aspartame, but whatever, one piece leads to 2, 6, 12, 16, 24... and then the horrible gas. seriously, I am interested in your answer to addiction to "gum".

It started a way to just clean my teeth after lunch at work or whenever I ate something were I couldn't brush. It's become a habit, something I do when I'm anxious or even bored I pop a couple of pieces in my mouth and comp.

It's really bad I'm wearing my teeth down. I keep trying to cut down but it's not working. I swear it was easier for me to quit smoking. And no the gum chewing wasn't just a replacement for that. I quit smoking many years ago, the gum thing just started less than 2 years ago.

Like you,I don't know if quiting smoking and the gum chewing is related. Quit smoking 25 years ago and know nicotine is horribly addictive. I've always chewed gum. But I don't know, the gum these days seems to have some sort of powerful addictive additive. And I think I've got an awful case of TMJ.
