Heck, I posted sort of a "what fools these mortals be" response on one of the CM threads, myself. I figure ANYBODY can tick off ONE side of an issue -- ah, but potentially ticking off BOTH sides... is an art form! :evilgrin:

(I just hate to see so much energy and vitriol expended on what appears to be, more than anything else, a misunderstanding -- which is being badly handled by BOTH sides. IMHO <==Gotta add the disclaimer!)

I used to live in a midwestern meatpacking town. Illegal immigrants saved that town's economy, but they were used up and thrown away by the community on a regular basis. I say, amnesty, fair wages and safe workikng environments for everyone. Corporate greed is the problem, not illegal immigration.

As long as corporations are allowed to hire illegal immigrants without suffering any adverse consequences as a result, they'll continue to hire them. It's pointless blaming the immigrants for taking a job that's offered to them.

I like to pick my risks...maximum impact, minimum risk of breaking a limb. As a result I don't go skiing, play touch football with a bunch of over the hill types, or drive in Boston.

I did make some new friends recently (see below). I met them while touring the Goa trance scene in DC. They seemed both clever and ready to party until they dropped (which of course wouldn't make much of an impact). There was no risk in hanging with them. The risk came when I took them home It was a brief interlude. Upon seeing the crew, my wife and daughter immediately excused themselves and drove off. I received an angry cell call shortly after that form the two of them and I had to send the fellows packing. Things have not been the same since then.

I wonder if I took too much of a risk?

Seriously though...I regularly post in GD and it has gotten a bit vicious lately. Enough that I had to take a couple days break from DU just to unwind a little. It's been like a porcupine convention.

On the other hand, someone posted one of those damned jingoist, hoax e-mails on one of my author's lists today and I just about went batshit. I calmed down before I could, but I was spitting nails for several hours anyway. I just didn't lash out on the list.

I think we're all tense these days. Things are bad and we know it, and we're waiting for the other shoe to fall.
