Gene Pitney found dead in hotel
"LONDON, England -- Singer Gene Pitney has died in the middle of his UK tour, his agent said.

The 65-year-old American star was found dead just after 10 a.m. Wednesday (0500 ET) at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff, Wales.

Jene Levy told Reuters Pitney had died on Wednesday morning in the Welsh capital.

There was no immediate word on the cause of death. Friends said he was in apparent good health and his death came as a shock.

South Wales police said they had been called to a hotel at 9.50 a.m. on Wednesday morning and that the death was not being treated as suspicious.

His 40-year career included a number of big hits, including "It Hurts to Be in Love," "Every Breath I Take," "Town Without Pity," "Only Love Can Break a Heart," the operatic "I'm Gonna Be Strong" and "Twenty-Four Hours From Tulsa."

1. "Town Without Pity" was great.
That's too bad. Oh well, at least he died on the road, performing.

6. One of the first songs I remember hearing was..
"Baby you're my kind of woman". The flip side of the 45 was "Hate" and I listened to that record so many times I nearly wore it out. He had a voice that pierced your ears, it was great..lol. I still have that 45 floating around and I got it new in 1968 or so. I didn't know he wrote "Hello Mary Lou".

19. I loved his 80s duet with Marc Almond as a kid
of "Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart"

(On googling for the lyrics I've just found out that it wasn't released in America because of fears that people would think they were a gay couple (!?!) so it may not be that well known on here.)

--

Something's gotten hold of my heart
Keeping my soul and my senses apart
Something's gotten into my life
Cutting it's way through my dreams like a knife
Turning me up, and turning me down
Making me smile, and making me frown

In a world that was small
I once lived in a time that was peace and no troubles at all
But then you came my way
And a feeling of unknown shook my heart,
made me want you to stay
All of my nights, and all of my days

(yeah I gotta tell you now)
Something's gotten hold of my hand
Dragging my soul to a beautiful land
Yeah, something has invaded my night
Painting my sleep with a colour so bright
Changing the grey, and changing the blue
Scarlet for me, and scarlet for you

I got to know if this is the real thing
I got to know it's making my heart sing
Wo-hoo-o-ye-e-e-e-e e-
You smile and I am lost for a lifetime
Each minute spent with you is the right time
Every hour, every day
You touch me and my mind goes astray, yeah
Baby, baby

Something's gotten hold of my hand
Dragging my soul to a beautiful land
Something has invaded my night
Painting my sleep with a colour so bright
Changing the grey, and changing the blue
Scarlet for me, and scarlet for you

20. RIP
It seemed to be peaceful at least. "He's A Rebel" remains a favorite song of mine.
