Name your least favorite sitcom that was a hit series |
|
The show has to have been (or currently be) a hit show (ie on for several seasons). No shows that aired 4 times and then were gone. We know they sucked :)
Mine is COACH. Used to come on after (or was it before?) Roseanne and I never got it. Just seemed so dull and was never ever funny. I always wondered how they had Roseanne and Full House and Who's the Boss and then COACH--what were they thinking!! The whole night was ABC--after watching those, my mom and I watched thirtysomething.

watching a show where people were poked fun of on a weekly basis. Couldn't stand it.

91. The whole premise of Seinfeld was the relationships between people who... |
|
Didn't fully understand various social norms that are basically a given to normal people. Just about every character on the show had some kind of quirk about them that disrupted some kind of social norm. I think it's really quite clever.

watch reruns of this over and over even though no unemployed New Yorker could afford any of the apartments they lived in. You'd have to be raking in some serious money to get a two bedroom like that.

I've cooled on them recently. They just seem to be more and more derivative and shallow. Or maybe i'm changing. Meh.
I liked Seinfeld, Friends, etc.
The only one I can think of that was a "mega hit" that I never got into was Everbody Loves Raymond, but that's because he just annoys me, and the parents annoy me, etc. It's like they went out of their way to pick actors that I didn't like with that show.
Other ones I could have done without but I just didn't watch them. No big loss.

though, as others have said, Jack and Karen aren't too bad. Friends I don't mind, Seinfeld can make me laugh, but I dispise it on principle. If someone tells me I'm a fucking idiot with no sense of humor/taste if I say I'm not really a *whatever show/band* fan, I tend to hate the show/band. I've had that happen several times with Seinfeld (and Radiohead, incidently)

79. I would say Everybody Loves Raymond EXCEPT... |
|
I'm only biased against the show because of Patricia Heaton. I actually found the others (Ray, Robert, their folks) pretty funny. I never watched it regularly, though.
I'm trying, but all I can think of is sitcoms I really liked (WKRP In Cincinnati, One Day At A Time, Cheers, The Nanny)
Wait...how about Webster? I couldn't stand that show.

83. There are many sitcoms which I hate(d) that are/were hits |
|
Probably the biggest is Friends. I just couldn't stand that show, even if everyone in the world said it was fantastic, great, etc. I would not, could not bear to watch it.
I'm not really a huge fan of sitcoms anyhow, since my main TV interest is drama and SF.
The first time All in the Family was on (in the 1970s) I wouldn't watch it, because I really hated the bigotry that was played up on the show. Now it's easier to watch it and I really can say it was probably great in its original time, but I was too young and too engaged in other things to have appreciated the humor.
The one with Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser. I could look it up, but I'm going to bed soon, and I don't really care. I did like the occasional episode (I think there were three, IIRC) when Kevin Bacon showed up.
Perhaps it's better to say what I did like, because that list is much, much smaller:
From the 1970s and forward:
Barney Miller WKRP in Cincinnati Head of the Class Welcome Back Kotter Mork and Mindy Taxi -- Except Andy Kaufman and later Carol Kane. Their characters were HORRIBLE and I couldn't stand them. I actually preferred the more sane members of the ensemble, meaning Hirsch, Henner and DeVito. Two and a Half Men Both Bob Newhart shows Home Improvement A lot of the Designing Women shows, except for when Delta Burke got on her high horse and aggravated the piss out of me Still Standing Pig Sty -- lasted a short time (very short!) on UPN when it started. What's very ironic is almost all of the stars have gone on to significant work on other shows (Brian MacNamara, Liz Vassey, Sean O'Bryan, etc) Platypus Man-- made cooking shows fun at the very beginning of the cycle. Starred Richard Jeni. Funny show.
That's about all I can think of right now. Anything else I've either forgotten by natural means, or forgotten intentionally. :)

87. Final "Newhart" one of the best ever. There were 3 Bob Newhart Shows... |
|
The Bob Newhart Show. Newhart. Bob.
I liked "Bob," but it was a bit underdeveloped and it was competing with the first two shows.
