Spaghetti Tonight... Sauce From A Jar... What Can I Do To Make It Better?
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 05:42 PM by arwalden
I've got some frozen zucchini and squash slices... would that be too gross if I added into the sauce?

That's what I do. I sautee the onions in butter with garlic and basil...and some times a dash of red wine in the sauce if I have it.

MmmmmmMMMMmmmm...just like Mama's...if Mama had made homemade spaghetti sauce. :hi:

5. Add more garlic and simmer it for awhile.
Jar sauce can be OK if you just season it to taste and reduce it down some.

And I've made plenty of sauces with zuchini and squash - not frozen, though, dunno what to tell you about that.

7. Most important: What's the label?
Paul Newman makes excellent sauce.
The squashes would work.
I'd sautee them in some olive oil before adding them.
Otherwise it'll get watery.
And add about a half pound of garlic.
;-)

31. Ah...Antonio Guido (A.G.) Barrilla.
Bah-REE-yah

A.G. Barilla was born in Catania, Sicily in 1953 at Villa Barilla

When he was twelve years old, his family emigrated to the United States.
His father, Paulo had made a fortune in the family business of the producing and canning of organic tomato sauces, pastes, and "tomato flavor-based-extracts products".
He had decided it was time to expand the familiar enterprise.

A.G. attempted a hostile takeover of "Famiglia Barillo Enterprises, LLC" (NYSE sym. FBE) in 1975.
Aided by Kravitz & Associates, the deal failed largely due to the Barillo daughters voting their stock with the wishes of their father.

Three weeks later, Paulo met an untimely death by gunshot wound at the hand(s) of "person or persons unknown".

The next day A.G. was elected Chairman of the Board and CEO.
The rest, as they say, "is history".
Hope this has been of some assistance.
:-)

21. I also add sauteed bison meat
and some of the drippings to the sauce and sauteed veggies (onions, garlic, red and green pepper, zucchini and mushrooms).

I add lots of Italian seasoning and black pepper, put it in the slow cooker and let it go for a few hours, then turn it off and leave overnight to let the flavours meld.

I like my sauce very chunky. :9

25. Puree the squash and add that to the sauce.
Add some pepper. It'll be awesome.

If I have to use jar sauce I also puree just a bit of spinach, kale or whatever good green I have in the freezer and add that too.

44. I buy sauce in a jar and add mushrooms and prosciutto Parma ham.
The prosciutto is $19/pound at the Fresh Market. I buy a half pound and use it in all sorts of dishes. I freeze the slices and then julianne portions for omelets, salads, and pasta sauces. It goes a long, long way. My favorite E-Z pasta sauce is to saute 8 oz. sliced mushrooms in olive oil (with salt, pepper, and garlic), and add the juice of 1/2 lemon and a handful of prosciutto strips. Good beyond belief!

Jarred sauce can be jazzed up with any of the following: hamburger or Italian sausage, meatballs, fresh garlic, fresh diced onion, fresh herbs, extra tomatoes, diced green pepper, Parmesan cheese
