that works too. Buy some cat spray/pee enzymatic remover from a pet store NOW. The longer you let it wait, the worse it gets.

but if it's gotten into the padding under the carpet you're going to have to pull it up and treat there - or worse - replace it.

Seriously, I've had cat pee problems for way too long now. It's almost impossible to stop, and nipping it in the bud is vital. Supposedly "nature's miracle" or some such enzyme remedy is supposed to work, I'm not sure if it does.

5. Enzyme products like "Nature's Miracle" work quite well.

You just have to be sure to use enough. If the cat pee is on furniture or a rug you need to soak it well, ASAP. Small, inexpensive peed-on items might just as well be tossed out.

I am not kidding. They sell the stuff on TV and apparently it works like a magical pee removal elixir.

A must have for any household with pets.

My mother, a very frank woman with a bionic nose, gave my house the smell test, and it passed.

If you thoroughly clean the carpet, bedding, curtains, and other fabrics in the room, you can get rid of the smell.

9. I just got through treating the same problem.

No residual smells, thank god.

Here's how I did it.

1. Buy a Bissell steam cleaner--you can get one for about $100, and you will never regret spending that, if you have a pet.

2. Steam clean the offending area (and, heck, just go ahead and steam-clean the whole room) with Bissell Pet Stain Remover.

3. 12 hours later, repeat step 2.

4. 12 hours later, repeat step 2.

5. Go to PetsMart and buy the $20 jug of Nature's Miracle. Go to your garden center and buy a pressure sprayer (about $10). Heavily spray the whole carpet with Nature's Miracle.

6. Strategically place fans on the floor to dry the carpet. If you have ceiling fans, turn them on.

7. Wash all linens in the room with the offending odor.

8. You should by this point be stink free.

I add Nature's Miracle to the wash for especially stinky stuff, but I never thought about using Simple Green.

I love the pink Simple Green. Have you ever bought that? I can't recommend it enough!

We don't have carpeting, thank GAWD (hardwoods save my sanity), but it is somewhere in the livingroom and I can't figure out where! It's driving me nuts.

One cat I had did that, and I couldn't figure out where the smell was coming from...went to take down the curtains to wash and ICK! Put my hand right on the edge she had been spraying.

Are your hardwoods a new addition to your living room? Only asking because if there was pee that got into the concrete subflooring, and it wasn't sealed before putting down the hardwoods, the smell can return.

Actually, we don't have any draperies in that room at all ... Also, we've had the wood floors for seven years, and this is a recent smell. I wondered if the kitty that I suspect peed in the vent, because the smell is worse when the furnace comes on. Oy vey! :hi:

I have one female cat that has been "marking" stuff in my house. I threw out two chairs, spent small fortunes on various miracle and enzyme cleaners, and have suffered through the embarassment of having a cat-pee-smelling house. Now the fucking cat is gone. You become less and less attached to the little shit the more it "marks" things. The hell with it.

I have solidly moved into the "Dog Person" category. I'll never get another cat again.
