I suppose there are guys who want stupid women. They're stupid themselves, or incredibly insecure.

Most boys your age are very insecure, as are most girls. Boys that age tend to not want to date anyone that might "show them up" in any way.
It's the age more than anything. It'll get better as you get older.

to be honest, i don't really go around "looking for guys." when i was in school(i homeschool now) i hung around with the "popular" crowd, but the guys i liked were always the "quiet nerdy" guys who had great personalities, but stayed off to themselves. those guys i could be great friends with, but none of them seemed interested in actually going out with me. i am still good friends with a lot of them now.

I bet some of them probably were interested, but too scared or shy to do anything about it, or just didn't know how to. Dating is a habit. If you're not used to it, you may not know how to get started. If there were any of them you were interested in, just how big of a clue-by-four did you bonk them over the head with? To get through to a nerdy high school boy that it's okay for them to ask you out or kiss you or something like that, can take a mighty big whack.
When I was a nerdy junior high school boy, years ago, a girl I had a crush on kissed me on the mouth - she just got up from her table when the substitute teacher was out for a few minutes, walked over to mine, kissed me totally by surprise, then went back to her seat. It still didn't occur to me that maybe, just maybe, that might mean she was attracted. My best guess was that she was teasing me, but mostly I was baffled.
That's the sort of cluelessness you have to put up with when dealing with nerdy young boys who haven't dated.

at least in my school. There were nine students who made National Honor Society as juniors. 3 boys and 6 girls. Of the 6 girls, two of them were candidates for homecoming queen, and another was Cherry Prom queen and queen in her Freshman year. The other 3 candidates for homecoming queen all made National Honor Society in their senior year. Contrary to the stereotype - the pretty and popular girls were not stupid. At least not if grades are a valid measure of intelligence.

But the area.
As a guy, I went through the same-thing-only-different growing up in Alabama thirty years ago. I guess it's worse for you, though, given the "southern belle" culture and all the freight that carries.
Here's a hint, just the same: the odds are that he's not on the football, baseball or basketball teams just as in my day she wasn't likely to be a cheerleader, or in church. The guys whose company you'll enjoy are much more likely to be writing for the school paper, in the A/V club, Thespian Society, Young Democrats or some such. I know you're home-schooled, but just sayin'.
Best of luck! I'm sure you're gearing toward not going to college in Alabama, which is the one way you'll best find out that a lot of what you're talking about is cultural.
It's hard being an intelligent young person. It's even harder being an intelligent young person in the Deep South. The system is distinctly geared away from you.

yes, they tend to be dumb but their defining characteristic is how unbelievably self-absorbed they are. Trust me, every guy gets tired of some air head bimbo who never shuts up ever.
The reason the guys are "attracted" to them is they are *EASY*
And really, thats the answer to your whole thread right there. It has nothing to do with intelligence and everything to do with putting out.
EDIT: and no I'm not implying anything about being dumb and being promiscuous. Nor am I implying that brainy chicks tend to be prudes. Sometimes its just as easy to get a smart chick in bed...sometimes

Got bad laryngitis once, and still went out bar-hopping with my friend who lived in D.C. Ended up giving TWO guys my business card - and one was so smitten he wrote to me, inviting me to visit his big farm or whatever in Virgina (didn't respond to either of them, since I live a couple hours north)
I NEVER got that far when I was able to speak!!!
Made me thing - maybe smiling and nodding a lot was the true secret to success! (that and a black leather miniskirt).
Seriously, though - it's all where you go fishing. If you get involved in things that attract smart guys, you're going to up the odds that they find smart girls attractive. Theater, politics, science-related interests, anything considered "geeky".

73. Could it be the voice? |
|
I'm 54, married and not much to look at. But as a tech writer, I make a lot of phone calls to engineering types, and find that men seem to like my voice. Ask a few trusted friends for an honest opinion. If people think the tone, pitch, speed or accent could use some work, this is something you can change. Another thought - everybody, male and female, enjoys being with people who listen well. Could it be that when you had laryngitis, the men found you a great listener? Being able to really listen to people is a valuable life skill, and doesn't indicate a lack of intelligence. Listening skills include focusing on the speaker, not looking around the room, making an occasional nod or sound to indicate that you're paying attention, and being able to reflect back what the person tells you, instead of heading off on a different subject.

79. Definitely the listening skills |
|
It's not the voice - I'm hyper aware of that, since I had polyps on the vocal chords in college, and went through extensive speech therapy to correct it. Plus I got rid (or at least mitigated) my Philadelphia accent with additional speech therapy at the same time. So it wasn't the voice. (Sadly, it was BETTER before the speech therapy, men LOVED my hoarse voice, which sounded like Susan St. James. Afterwards, it was no longer distinct and sexy) But you are right on the mark - most people are totally unaware of how they sound.
Listening was definitely the key -- although I'm paid to listen now as a focus group moderator, (including the nodding, reflecting, total focus on the respondent, plus body language and phrases to get people to elaborate further) I was a chatterbox back in my barhopping days. Being forced to do 100% of the listening and 0% talking was probably a big part of the appealn of the laryngitis (although I'm not counting out the miniskirt)

Dumb, BUXOM women attract rich men, because men like that want trophies to show off. But I've seen a lot of dumb women that will never be in that place, because they're not eye candy.

I like smart girls because I dont go for looks. Always know who they are and how their personality fits, and to me, I love a smart woman. I HATE the popular girls mainly because most of them act stupid, and thus are stupid.
Here's something a prep said last year:
Teacher: Well, today we're going to look into the outcome of the Civil War and how it affected America. Prep: Wait a minute....WE HAD A CIVIL WAR?!
Also, she thought a Hydrometer was a washing machine.

He has little tolerance for stupid, and I can't imagine him ever, ever dating an airhead bimbo type. And he married me (a Ph.D. student, geeky, was in gifted class in elementary school, intellectual "elitist" and all of that).
Only stupid insecure guys are really interested in stupid girls. And you don't want one of them anyway. I know of which I speak because before my husband I was living with a man who was extremely threatened by the "smart" things about me. He used to make fun of me for reading, for instance, and would pick fights if I accidentally started discussing something that he didn't happen to know about. That guy eventually turned out to be emotionally and physically abusive, and I left after he threw me into a wall and destroyed some of my stuff.

|
I'm from the North but lived in the South for a couple years. I really like Southern girls with Southern accents, but I spent more time dating women not from the South because they were all sick of redneck guys with accents that they thought sounded stupid. I guess I was one of the few guys around without much of an accent that also had some ambition and intelligence, so the Northern girls who didn't like Southern guys were always after me.

"We want to a girl's hero, not the other way around. A guy does not want to be less intelligent and less accomplished than his girlfriend. Well not just that, I guess.

95. My best advice to you is to look in different places. |
|
We've all done it. We've all gazed at the most popular boy in school, the rebel, the jock and wanted him. Chances are he's not the right one and will never be the right one for you.
Are you looking for someone right now? Look around at the smaller clubs at your school. Look at Drama, Strategy and Tactics, Debate, Chess, Science and Computer clubs. There are many guys there who would gladly date an intelligent young woman, especially if she cleans up as well as you do in your pictures. Take a look at the guys in votech classes. Many are smart enough that they are looking for a career right out of high school and want the training for it right now. Compared to the rest of us they don't feel that they have time to waste and have already found something they are interested in.
Myself, I never gave the guys in FFA a chance. Looking back I realize that I was an idiot. From the outside they seem rough and unintelligent. Now I realize that most were very sweet and extremely smart. They are usually gentlemen who don't demand more than you want to give and most come from families where hard work, both in labor and in school, is respected. And the biggest secret of all about the FFA guys: Most are more liberal then you would think. Most don't even realize that they are liberal, at least in some areas.
Farmers tend to be in favor of conservation (to an extent) and in favor of ecology. They tend to hate big business(remember, they are fighting megafarms), they want to learn how to farm to preserve their land instead of strip it and many are in favor of alternate fuel sources (there's money in ethanol). And most farmers are in favor of animal cruelty laws. Yes, they may be ranchers or pig or chicken farmers but most believe in treating the animal in a cruelty-free environment.
Just look for guys in other places. They are out there.

I said I had "family obligations." She had tickets for a play and I knew one of her friends wanted to go too, so I sacrificed myself so her friend could take my place. That and pro wrestling is the shit, so you know how that goes.
Oh, I'm a total loner type. People don't fully grasp that because I'm funny and so on, but I'd rather chill by myself than do just about anything. I find I don't keep in touch with people like I should, as a result.
Endearing? Man, it would be nice to find someone who thinks me being a bizarre weirdo is endearing.... that'd be cool.
Mr. Kennedy should be back any week now right?
Hey, do you watch TNA? The monster Abyss - obvious Kane and Mankind ripoff- does this finishing move where he picks a guy up in a torture rack and comes down almost like a Samoan Drop. I invented that move over ten years ago! When I first saw that fucker do that, I nearly fainted. I've been so pissed for the last two months. Damn him for stealing my move. At least nobody has ever done the Spiderweb Deathlock that I invented. It's a weird version of an STF, much like an amateur wrestling move called the Turk. It's badass. I still have that anyway. :)

Samoa Joe is the shit, and the future of wrestling, IMO. And if he were in the WWE he'd never get a push solely because of his look, even though he's better than 90 percent of the wrestlers on pure ability alone. Abyss is indeed the lovechild of Kane and Mankind; supposedly Sting lists him as one of his favorites, which is a shock to me; I would have never figured...
I love AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, too; The X division is the best thing going in wrestling right now. Cant' stand Jeff Jarrett, though...
And this:
"Oh, I'm a total loner type. People don't fully grasp that because I'm funny and so on, but I'd rather chill by myself than do just about anything. I find I don't keep in touch with people like I should, as a result."
Could have been written by me; it's scary how alike we are..

Oh Samoa Joe! The guy is awesome, he's my favorite TNA guy. He has the coolest finishing moves. AJ Styles has a really cool finisher too. TNA seems like they allow their guys to do crazier stuff and more explosive moves. I always tease my brother, the cage fighter, and say stuff like "So, who do you think would win in the Octagon, Samoa Joe or (UFC Light Heavyweight Champion) Chuck Liddell?" Hahaha
It cracks him up at the thought of a pro wrestler fighting in a regular fight, although in the Pride Fighting in Japan they get pro wrestlers that fight. I remember this one Japanese pro wrestler, some legend I can't remember offhand, fought one of the Gracies, I think Rickson. The Gracie family are the most badass jiu-jitsu competitors ever and, Rickson Gracie might be the best, so anyway, he and this pro wrestler are really tangling and the guy is giving a helluva account of himself. He gets Rickson down to the ground and is pummelling him when all of a sudden he goes for a monkey flip, lol. Out of nowwhere in a real effing fight this pro wrestler tries some pro wrestling move on one of the best fighters ever, haha. Needless to say it didn't work, it actually cost him the fight as he got submitted a short time later. It was great though.

buy into the fairy tales too much. Their vision of love is riding in on the white horse or saving the girl from the Kraken. When they don't know much about women, the best in they can think of is helping her out with something she can't do- lifting a heavy box, or helping her program her VCR. Stupid girls need more help, so they're easier to meet.
It's not that they aren't attracted to smart girls- it's that they don't know how to meet them. As they get older, more confident and more interesting they develop better ways to meet the smart girls and hence seem more attracted to them.
My theory anyway.

Dumb guys like dumb girls.
I've gotten hit on by plenty of stupid men because they think they like the package and could care less about the more important stuff. I find with smarter men I've had to drop bigger hints sometimes. Fortunately, I've had a number of important relationships in life- all with very unique and intelligent men (who might like the package, but stay for more important reasons). I'm sure you will as well. It's human nature. You'll probably even get your heart really broken a few times before you meet the right person.

147. It's all about populations |
|
Smart girls, and smart guys, are both pretty much a minority. Since people generally want to be with someone who is equal to them intellectually (not that "opposites attract" stuff), the pools for smart guys and smart girls are both pretty small. The problem is finding out who is actually smart. There were popular, attractive girls in high school that got really good grades, but when they got to college... suddenly being popular and attractive didn't help you out with class, like it did in high school.

150. Oh, Please. I am smart and never without a man or several |

I have always had them running around me and it had nothing to do with whether or not I had brains. Maybe it has to do with your other attributes. I had a ball through high school and college. College men certainly respected someone with brains.
Perhaps you should seek to improve your self-esteem and self-confidence. I think most people are attracted to others who are secure with who they are. By no means am perfect, but you have to take risks to gain the rewards.
BTW, I had academic scholarships all across the country and several sports ones as well. So I was not some pasty-faced brainiac.

People like people like themselves. If you're smart then the set of guys who are of like mind are also a smallish percentile.
Stop looking at the jocks and start looking at the nerds.
I know, the nerds aren't much fun to look at. But there's a secret here. The nerds usually improve with age, while the jocks usually don't.

166. because money grubbing is all? |
|
and if you are intelligent then perhaps you are presumed to have an advantage in the race to grab the most money?
don't really know, just guessing here really
intelligence, like beauty, fades, and it seems to me that the decline in one's ability to learn and retain new information is particularly frustrating when it starts to go if you are used to being intelligent, i suppose average or stupid people don't notice anything in their 40s since they never remembered anything to begin with, but it's just as frustrating as the slow decline of one's looks if you ask me and there's no botox for the mind
anything good is impermanent, people admit beauty fades but don't admit that a lot of older people are off their game, so they sort of falsely weigh the scale in favor of brain over brawn

Exceptionally intelligent men are attracted to intelligent women. Shallow men who are not the intellectual type may normally choose looks over substance. I think that most intelligent men like a woman that they can conversate with and present to their friends, family and colleagues proudly. They are smart enough to know that attaction based on appearance does not last very long. The novelty of arm candy wears off very quickly.
