Tech Help PLZ!...I cant find my modem in my new from Ebay Dell Lat C610 |
|
I just got a Dell Latitude c610 from ebay and the seller told me that there was an internal modem that would work with a dial-up connection.
The device manager and the internet connection wizard are unable to detect a modem.
What do I need to do to find out for sure if there is a modem and if it is working? How do I activate it?
I'd really appreciate some help.
Thanks

8. ok, go to the startup menu on your laptop then go to programs. |
|
Locate Modem helper under programs (if its a dell, it should have this program already installed). Its not a website, its a program installed on most (all?) dell computers that allows the user to diagnose and fix all modem problems and to fix interface issues.

My bad. Go to add/install new hardware under "control panel" then click phone and modem optiopns. then click "modem." That will telll you what/if a modem is installed.

13. huh. Odd. Can you add new hardware? Does it offer you that |
|
option? you should break this computer over the guys head who sold it to you if he lied and it doesnt have a modem (IMHO)

14. Do you have a Windows install disk? |
|
Nuke and Pave... Perhaps the person who owned it before you fucked it up. It would be a good idea to start with a clean install with a used laptop.
It looks like the modem is a: Modem: Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem
I looked for the proper driver without any luck.
Plenty of links if you use Linux. It must work with a proper install of Windows.

15. Ok, I think we can fix it. Go to start again then go to |
|
control panel. Then go to printers and other hardware. ON the left of the screen, under TROUBLESHOOTERS select HARDWARE. Select "I'm having a problem with a modem" then select "Windows does not detect my modem." Next, select "No, my modem is connected correctly, but I still have a problem" then follow the directions on the next screen. Se if that helps
