One-Eyed Kitten Sold To Museum Exploring Creationism
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A one-eyed, noseless kitten that stirred debate last year over whether it was a hoax will be the centerpiece of a new museum intended to promote the theory of creationism.

John Adolfi plans to feature Cy's remains at The Lost World Museum when it opens later this year. The Phoenix, N.Y., museum will feature such oddities as giant plants and eggs, deformed animal remains and unique archaeological finds, he said.

1. PT Barnum would be proud.
Do you think this will re-popularize a great word that's recently fallen into obscurity? I'm talking about, of course, "rube".

3. More info:
Evolution states that millions of mutations over millions of years with the help of environmental “pressures” can lift a species from the ape like creature we call “Lucy” to us today. My questions are these. Do positive mutations exist? The mutations I have seen, like Cy, are either neutral or negative. Also can mutations given enough time and chance really produce greater intelligence, reason, speech and even spirituality to beings?
Given the possibilities side by side. I say that it is easier to believe that we came from Adam and Eve and not “Lucy” and Steve. Either way it requires faith because we did not see Adam created from the earth and we did not see Lucy walking about to know for sure if she was a monkey, deformed person or something else. We did not then or now see evolution produce a gill to a lung or fin to an arm.
So what is in store for Cy? Cy went through some surgery to remove a piece of skin so scientists can study why she ended up with one eye. We have her bathing in formalin - a preservative. Later this month her solution will be replaced with alcohol and then she will be ready to go on tour.

4. Even funnier . . .
"If evolution was really true, we would have dug up fossils of all sorts of ancient animals who would have started out with only 1 eye, and then they would have later mutated themselves a 2nd eye! We would find fossils of 1-eyed T-rexes, 1-eyed giant beavers, 1-eyed giant kangaroos, etc. — but we don’t! Bilateral organs like eyes prove that evolution is a LIE — because if mutation and evolution were really true, then it only makes sense that any given life form would just mutate only 1 of any given organ like an eye at first, and then later it would mutate the 2nd one!"

What the FUCK are these people smoking?

5. Oh my. They've finally gone off the deep end.
(Not actual quotes) "Did you know, evolutionists think gravity evolved? But there was no life before gravity... so it can't have! Clear, empirical proof, that's what I call it. However some of my esteemed colleagues call my office 'Twanging the wire' or 'having a bat', which they assure me is slang for 'really hard-working' "

*ahem* enough foul language.

6. Unbelieveable.
I have heard some petty stupid arguments against evolution, but that one may actually be the stupidest.

12. Hey everyone! Point and laugh at the stupid creationist!
He doesn't know that animals had already developed 2 eyes and bilateral symmetry before the dinosaurs!

16. If I did that
in the words of Pharyngula again, I would have to "lie down afterwords and put lye in my ear until it dribbled out my eye sockets, just to scour the stupidity out of my brain."

Though stupid, for some reason I find that dinosaur fucking hilarious. It should be a mascot for something.

19. maybe it's because
i've been reading a LOT of creationist stuff lately, but I kind of understand where he's going wrong (besides the part about being batshit insane). Creationists just can't get out of their heads the concept of a conscious designer. Even when they analyze evolution. To them, there is a goal that nature is trying to reach, rather than a constant self-correcting process of semi-random mutations. They also tend to focus on the individual level: i.e., the one-eyed dinosaur developing two eyes. Evolution deals with entire populations, over thousands of generations. They just can't deal with that amount of time. Especially when they think that only 6,000 years have ever existed.

20. ah your comment about individuals VS population
It's actually the most common error associated with the gen. public's understanding of evolution: they think in terms of INDVIDUALS over POPULATION....

21. I see a lot of people
Edited on Sun Apr-09-06 11:13 PM by realisticphish
who have bought into the "survival of the fittest" thing, which really misses the point of evolution. It's not like this animal has a longer neck, thus it can reach higher on the trees and survive all its comrades. The fact is that animals in the population with a longer neck TEND on AVERAGE to survive longer, etc. It's all about averages and VERY gradual changes, not an animal growing an extra limb
