1. Then you must not have been around for the Carter-Reagan
presidential election day. They announced that Carter had conceeded to Reagan just as I was headed to my polling place in Oregon. It was my first presidential election, and I was excited about being able to vote. I voted anyway, but it was essentially nullified by the East Coast news reporters. Would Carter have lost even if everyone on the West Coast had voted (many people just said, f**k it after they heard about the concession), but still, I felt, and feel, that my right to vote was taken away from me that day.

Talk about a bunch of pissed off people! :grr: :grr: :grr:

4. It was a dumb thing to have done.
The Congressional races were still in the balance. At the time there were calls for a uniform nation wide voting time or for locking the results until all polls closed. That got about as far as eliminating the Electoral College. We really do need to do something. The Electoral College is killing us.
