OK, so 500 isn't a lot compared to some of you folks. Still, I'm happy to have made it this far.

And THIS is my 500th, and I wanted it to be in THE LOUNGE!

:toast:

:bounce:

:hi:

:boring: <--Hey, now who put that there?

1. Congrats, Kay. Now for the question:
does your impending stint in the 700 Club make you nervous?

8. It's just a geeky moniker I started using a long time ago...
Combination of two different SF movies.

9. Thanks CaliforniaPeggy!
I'm just a liberal from way back. Supported John Anderson in college (shook his hand!).

Despised Ronnie, tolerated Poppy, loved Clinton, wanted Gore (still do), hate Chimpy. Hate hate hate Chimpy. So does Mrs. Kay.

So would KayTot, except she loves everybody!

10. Dang good question!
I think it was the Top 10 Conservative Idiots, sent by a friend. Then I ventured out, discovered GD, made a few posts (here's one from today: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x893810), discovered the Lounge.

(please click on the GD thread, see how safe it is? No flames or anything. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts. Be brave!)

12. I'm so glad you said "early candidate"
Because when a worried friend of mine asks "BUT BUT BUT who do we have to go up against the GOP in 2008??", I always reply that nobody knew who Bill Clinton was, 2-3 years before the election.

So I guess in general I'd support a Governor over a Senator, since I think people can make the mental leap from Gov to Prez more easily than Sen to Prez.

Warner maybe? Vilsack's name is a little too odd (for Average Voter, that is). Maybe Richardson if he lost some weight (image is a reality for Average Voter).

But most of all, I like the idea of President Pelosi in summer of 2007!

13. More on Pelosi...
From Wikipedia:

She has been widely praised by liberals for criticism of steps taken by the George W. Bush administration in the years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She was a member of the Progressive Caucus until she became the party leader, when she adopted a policy of not belonging to any caucuses. <2>

In San Francisco, however, Pelosi is sometimes seen as more moderate than liberal, since she voted for the Patriot Act (which she now opposes) and authored the Presidio Trust Act, which privatized the Presidio of San Francisco.

Like most House Democrats, Pelosi opposed the resolution authorizing Bush to use military force against Iraq. She has strongly criticized the war effort since then, and introduced an amendment to the FY 2006 Defense Appropriations bill calling on Bush to specify a strategy for success in Iraq, as well as a timetable for a safe withdrawal of American troops.

Quotes:

Response to the State of the Union Address, January 20, 2004: "America must be a light to the world, not just a missile."

Referring to George W. Bush, Fox News, March 17, 2005: "Why should we put a plan out? Our plan is to stop him. He must be stopped."

Pelosi's account of a meeting with President Bush in which she called for the firing of FEMA director Michael Brown, who eventually resigned. ca. September 2005: "He said 'Why would I do that?' I said 'because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?' Oblivious, in denial, dangerous."

Pelosi on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, November 30, 2005: "That's why they had to make up that story about weapons of mass destruction. Because that was the only thing that would sell to the American people, and that wasn't true."

On top of everything else, she looks kinda sorta like Geena Davis, so viewers of "Commander in Chief" would have little trouble accepting her!

(said only half-tongue-in-cheek--lotsa people see TV as reality!)

15. Don't think Pelosi is presidential material
to throw that word around. I like her as House Minority leader though. Think she does a good job in that capacity.

I would choose Boxer over Pelosi in a pres. primary.

16. Oh I agree...
I didn't mean to posit her as a 2008 candidate. I just like the idea of President Pelosi in summer 2007! (i.e., impeached Chimpy and Cheney!)

20. Congratulations!
I'm not far behind you. :) I know you'll get to the 700 Club before I do, so try to get Pat out of there before I reach it. I don't want him to keep stinking up the place. :P

Glad you've enjoyed being on DU. Don't be a stranger! ;)
