1. Rescue an older kitty instead
I don't know your circumstances but older cats are usually more mellow and won't be as destructive as kittens can be. Plus so many older kitties need homes. :cry:

4. No kitty tonight, they were too young to leave their mother.
We do shelter a big old barn cat besides the two house cats we have. Over the years, one cat came with the house, four we got as kittens and two walked in from the road.

the kitten can go back on the shelf then, crap, i had no idea they were so bossy!
