So, what is American National Dress? |
Tonight and tomorrow night, the university campus where I live is having the annual Global Days celebration, and we are supossed to wear our national dress. Because people from over 70 countries attend school here, we have people wearing gorgeous, exotic clothes, and I'm stuck, I guess, with wearing....... jeans and a t-shirt. My daughters are wearing little pioneer outfits, complete with sun hats and aprons, which my mom made just for this purpose. But jeans look terribly drab next to the colorful saris, shalwar kameez, and traditonal dress from many countries in Africa.

3. There are many VERY beautiful Native American styles that are totally |
indiginous.
Failing that, you can always wear tie-dye. :D

7. Yes, but I would look very silly in them |
what with my blonde hair and all... now tie dye might be a better answer

8. We're more concerned with practicality than looks |
Or that's what I tell my friends who want me to explain Americans to them!

10. Well, maybe class is the wrong word... |
style is is probably more appropriate. Though I'm the last one that should be throwing stones in that regard. What I posted, less the flip flops is pretty much my summer uniform. :-(

12. My husband's summer uniform, too |
Nothing wrong with that, some people look really cute in it!
But once again, it's hardly appropriate if you're trying to show off your country's dress. My Sri Lankan maid will go in a lovely Sari, and my husband's Pakistani employee is going in his fancy embroidered shalwar kameez, so I want to look impressive, too!

14. Levi jeans, blue work shirt, denim jacket, baseball cap |
Cowboy boots are good, too. Jeans might look drab to you, but those have been part of the American dress since the 1800s.
