Photo of Back Bay before Katrina

This is a photograph I took from my back deck months before Katrina. It is looking south on Back Bay and was taken just after sunrise. Most of that pier is still there, but not the covered portion of the pier. Notice the houses across the bay, most of those are gone as well and those that remain are gutted and in terrible shape.

The tree branches hanging in the photo belonged to trees that were also destroyed by Katrina.

This is my desktop image. A reminder of how beautiful things can be here and will be again.

:)

3. The bay is still as beautiful,
full of debris that can be seen at low tide, but still beautiful. The view has changed due to missing trees and houses.

I just like that photo, one of the few photos I had on computer. It will take a while, but we will rebuild.

Thanks for the hug, SG

5. Don't I wish that was my boat
That is my neighbor's boat. They had moved it out of the areas and it is safe, they actually lived on it after the storm for a time. My boat is an old aluminum flat bottom rowboat. It was found in the neighbor across the street's back yard.

Our flat-bottomed one was called a Jon Boat.

minus the motor and that silly plug thingy. :silly:

The back end of it is alittle worse for the wear, but heck, it looks like it belongs on my lot.

6. Keep a good thought in your head.
I know the feeling of destruction, but just in a small way.

April, 1998 in Massachusetts:

We sold our early colonial reproduction home of almost thirty years to a divorced father who thought he was going to remarry a woman who was living with him.

According to our realtor, his personal plans didn't work out.

The home went back on the market in 1999, and we happened to visit Boston that summer. Curiosity got the better of us, and we took our grandson back to take a look on one hot August day.

The front yard was a total mess. My husband had put together a stone wall that had been completely destroyed by snowplows, I guess, in just a year. Also, the new owner had painted the house Pepto-Bismol pink (Ughhh!).

The inside didn't look bad, but all the wallpaper and paint I had lovingly chosen -- was gone.

But the worst was the backyard. Our gorgeous mountain lake design swimming pool was in pretty good shape. However, the owner had CUT DOWN EVERY TREE IN THE BACK YARD. There were six in all, each over forty years old, which my husband and children had taken loving care of...

In our opinion, the whole effect was to destroy a gorgeous, tree shaded haven. We never want to go there again.

peaceful, trees, leaves, houses. You should let DU know when you get your housing thing together and have a build-it-party for anyone that can join you in rebuilding when it happens. You'll get back that peaceful feeling again sometime, will take a while but you will get there.

It is so good to see you

You have helped me more than you will ever know and the visit with you and young uppityson and his friend was such a treat!

I hope they didn't think I was too odd, one never knows what goes through the mind of high schoolers these days. :9

So how did those photos come out that uppityson took? I would love it if you could pmail me links. No posting of me on this forum, that would be a cruelty to the others. ;)

How was the volunteer work in Slidell? Have you posted about your experiences and did I miss it?

It is so very good to see you

35. Good to see you too merh, haven't seen UPJr's pictures yet
Been busy sleeping and schooling and working, hoping to get to see them this weekend and need to finish up writing about our adventures to post. I'll let you know when and where they are online. I got my few on my blog and photobucket account (none of you or your place, UPJr has those).

I don't think they thought you were odd at all. They were rather impressed by you and everything, looking forward to seeing if your project works out and all also. How could they even think you were odd, being how they are? Except all adults are odd.

We spent a couple days in Chalmette at Emergency Communities/aka hippy camp/aka Food with Love cafe. The guys cooked, served, moved pallets of stuff around. I sorted, hung and etced clothes in the free store, for 2 days. Am a bit tired of clothes, but got it looking more like a clothing store than boxes on pallets to sort through. Then we tore up a floor in Slidell, got to use the crowbars and prybars that our varied hardware stores donated. Bits and piece of bits of stuff, going on the theory that any bit helps. Now we need to do a public showing of pictures and tales here.

I'm planning on returning, probably Oct, can't take the heat and want to get UPJr started in school. The guys want to return this summer between school and school. So, here we are.

It is cold here but NO BUGS!!! However, we have a robin that has been trying to scare its reflection away, flying into a window every 10-30 seconds from dawn to dusk. Thunk thunk thunk. I hope the females migrate here soon. Please do let us know what happens with your project as this would be very interesting to be in on or even keep up with.

36. LOL, I'm so glad they didn't I was any weirder than any other
adult. :9

They are great guys, you should be so proud of UPJr. I hope you post images of you three, I would like one for my album.

No Bugs, you guys don't have bugs??? How can that be ;)

I promise that once I hear anything about the project, I will let you know and keep you current.

If you think the bugs were bad this time of year, you ain't seen nothing. Summer really brings them out.

Take care and I look forward to your posts. Get some of that well deserved rest.

but a true shocker. I nevah rise before the sun, it was a fluke that day.

I'm glad you like my photo.

Hell comes in all types of ways, storms and locust, envy and contempt.

I'll take the hell I have known these last few months over the hell that others must know as their hearts are so full of envy and contempt.

and the house it was attached to. :(

The view is more open, thanks to the storm. We lost a lot of trees and I have some on my property that are dead, they just haven't fallen yet.

We will rebuild and this imagine helps me remember what was and know what will be again.
