1. I like Queen a lot
but you know, I don't think there's even one song written or performed, EVER, that should be hands-off for covers.

I think if someone thinks they can bring something to a song that was done by someone else, then let 'em have at it.

I may not like it, but I like that people try. It's a pretty high form of flattery.

4. I almost forgot!
Given how so many have played the "WELL, I WON'T SEE 'QUEEN' WITHOUT FREDDIE" card, I'd like to hear what these folks think of that crap last night!
And, look how many QUEEN songs Brian May & Roger Taylor sign THEMSELVES! Often time while playing guitar or drums respectively. Did anyone ever thing "Gee, maybe 'Radio Ga Ga' wasn't actually Freddie's song, you mean, Roger wrot it?!" That's what REALLY drives me batshit! I wonder if I'm the only person outside of Europe who bought "Return of the Champions" for gods sakes! It made #88 on the US charts, so, com'on people! It didn't get to 88 by just ME buying a copy of it!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. Well, I have a hard time imagining Queen w/o Freddie
and I don't know how they decided that Paul Rodgers could pull off the range that Freddie had. Paul's got a great voice, but his range is NOTHING like Freddie's. Of course, I have no idea what songs Queen is doing on this tour and it may be that they're only doing what Paul can manage.

Like I said, I missed the show last night, so I can't judge those performance.

8. Well
Brian & Roger, and Paul, make NO bones that Paul is NOT out to be the next Freddie. SMART IDEA! That's why they bill it "Queen plus Paul Rodgers"; as opposed to say, INXS vs. if they billed it (which they SHOULD have) as "INXS plus J.D."! Oopsy! Did I say that? Oh yeah, I did! Anyways, I was cynical as fuck, I thought: what? are they nuts? PR?! HEH!?
Then I broke down and got of copy of the live album (Return Of The Champions) and it was like DAMN! I kept thinking in the back of my mind, ok Roger and Brian ain't dumb, they ain't going out and pulling something that's going to completely backfire (like, say, Coverdale/Page) but I still don't get it. And ya know what, that live album doesn't do any justice as to how it is to REALLY see them in concert. They changed up the set list, although the show I saw in Miami I'm glad I did, cuz it's BETTER than the set they'd doing now later in the tour. Why not just do EVERY LAST SONG LIVE THAT YOU CAN!?!?!? Take a 30 minutes break if ya need to! I can pee that way, and not have to hold it for 2 or 3 more hours!!! I came THIS close to saying fuckit, I'm gonna go see 'em in Jacksonville, but, I didn't feel like driving ANOTHER 400 MILES! (Thanks for the low low gas prices Chimpy McCokespoon!)

3. I thought that I had read that they had never played in the US
prior to this tour. Is that right?

5. Yes and no
As Queen (the Freddie/Brian/John/Roger line up): Yes
(Last USA tour was 1982. Last Florida shows where Nov. 1978! Ask me why I made such a point of going! Since I was 4 in '78, go figure!)

As Queen plus Paul Rodgers (Paul/Brian/Roger/Spike Edney/Danny Miranda/Jamie Mosses): No

10. Yeah, I used to be into all that stuff way back when
I went through my "industrial phase" from 1989-92, and was into a lot of that WaxTrax stuff-- Front 242, Ministry, RevCo, PTP, Pailhead, etc. I was also quite into the Butthole Surfers then, too, oddly enough-- right before Ministry did "Jesus Built My Hotrod".

I haven't kept up with it, though. I guess I grew out of it.

13. I thought Kellie did well with that song.
That is not an easy song to sing.

16. check this out...
I liked her in the beginning, but now she gets on my last damn nerve. It's all an act. And I thought the lighting was horrible- like a high school play!

17. Agreed.
Chris had a chance to really shine last night, if only he would have chosed a different song. Simon was right--Chris was being a little self-indulgent.

Taylor definitely did a terrific job. I think he is a good entertainer.

12. I don't know why people freak out
First off, I think that if Brian and Roger thought it was sacrilege to their music, they would have said no. It was obvious when the one kid wanted them to change an arrangement Brian said something like "I will not do that to one of my songs" that they hold their music up to a standard.

As for the guys going out on the road as Queen, it is their right to do what they want. It seems like everyone wants them to give up any of their passion for playing music because their lead singer died. It doesn't work that way people. Roger and Brian were as much as Queen as the other two and they are allowed to do what they want.

As for the American Idol thing, it's just a television show. Watching Roger and Brian last night talking about the contestants, it seems like they had a good time doing the show and had nice things to say. I don't understand why people take American Idol so friggin' seriously. Of course it isn't the best entertainment in existence, but it *is* just entertainment. It's funny to watch people on here going on and on about shows like "Lost" and "The West Wing" and talk about it like it is some sort of brilliant art and then make fun of a show like American Idol. They are both just entertainment...that's it.

15. Sorry, but to me it ain't Queen without Freddie Mercury. . .
just like Lynyrd Skynyrd was never the same after their tragedy in October 1977.

BTW, whatever happened to John Deacon, the bassist??
