I am worried sick about my husband's NEW job. Please tell me it's ok.

Long story short - husband laid off from major corp 3 years ago after almost 20 years. Being over 50, it was very difficult to find a job. Worked temp here and there. 3 months ago he got a permanent job w/ benefits (I am disabled). Well everything seemed to be going all right - my husband is always of time, will do any job and never sick. He is working on these "collating" machines that print and collate statements, paychecks etc for other companies. During the 3 months, everything seemed to be going okay, but this past week,the company has been letting the workers in his dept go home early because work is slow.

The reason I am being paranoid is because "i have seen this part of the show before" at a different job where the company starting cutting a worker's hours and eventually let him go.

Please say that this is the state of affairs w/ companies now. In other words, they hire you for 40 hrs, but don't guarantee it.

2. sorry for the stress youre feeling from this
i have no idea the real state of company work weeks but is it possible that its just a slow time

i surely hope it works out for you both
there are many who live in this same world and i know it can be tough

take good care and i hope you dont make yourself sick from worry

3. A lot of companies don't guarantee 40 hours
The company I work for has a yearly bid period for people who want to bid for full time status. Only those who are accepted are guaranteed that status and it's like pulling teeth to get it. It's a business that tends to fluctuate between busy and not so busy so they like to have most of their employees considered part time so they don't have to pay them when there's no work. That is, as I understand it, standard operating procedure in many companies.

You can't change anything by worrying. :hug:

4. I think this is the slow time for the whole country...
things should start picking back up after the end of a April to we reach a slow crescendo with the finale being Christmas...
