The thickness of the piercing. A standard earring is about 20g. The lower the number, the bigger the hole. As in, I can stick a bic pen comfortably through my earlobe at 0g. It's also the largest size that you can shrink back down to a standard sized earring hole, so I'm not going bigger.

You stretch them really gradually (I've been stretching them for about 1.5 years). You skin is super elastic, so as long as you do it slow, it doesn't hurt. It's like a pinch when you go up a size (using a taper) but other than that, it doesn't hurt.

it was this bright, short, sharp shock of pain. And then it was mostly over. The belly-button didn't really hurt much either...but it bled more than the nipple did and took forever to heal...it never did heal right while my nipple healed up really quickly.
