Trapped NYC cat freed on 14th day of vigil
NEW YORK - An 11-month-old cat named Molly emerged late Friday from her self-imposed two-week incarceration behind the wall of a 19th century building, WNBC-TV reported.

A growing effort to lure the cat from its hiding place had seen a pet psychic arrive on scene.

Surrounded by a crowd of 50 — about half of them media — rescuers hammered out bricks in the cellar of the 157-year-old, four-story building to no avail. Molly's plight has received international attention. Even Japanese television was on hand Friday.

2. My son's cat "Wally" got her start that way..
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 11:51 PM by SoCalDem
My friend's 80 yr old mother called her at 1 am, and announced "I hear kittens".. She woke her husband and said.. I think Mother has had a stroke or something..she called and said she hears kittens..

They got dressed and drove to mother's house, and she was in the process of moving the stove herself..

Friend's husband finsihed moving it and sure enough, they heard the mewing of kittens..so he got some tools and started taking drywall off the kitchen wall..

They found 4 newborn kittens, and no sight of Mom anywhere..and that's how we got "Wally"..

The figured that Mom muct have gotten in via the open garage door, and somehow crawled into the wall space..and after she left the kittens to hunt food, the garage door was shut..and he could not get back to them..

Friend's mom watched for a nervous momcat but never saw one, so she bottle fed the babies...

3. Thank goodness ...

I needed some good news today.

I saw this story earlier and was horrified when I got to the end of it and realized she was still trapped. I've been rather depressed the last few days, and that didn't help at all.

Thanks for posting this.

4. So Glad that Molly is Safe!

Reminds me of a story I saw on Animal Planet a while back. A lady heard what sounded like a kitten mewing in her walls. After a great deal of effort, contractors finally located the pipe where the sound was coming from, tore out the wall and broke the pipe. They pulled out -- a small frog. It was a particular species of tree frog that sounds for all the world like a kitten. One of the workers was holding it, and it mewed, and it still would have fooled me. The lady was not at all happy that she'd torn up her house to rescue a frog!
