Rain delay in LA
First Giants-Dodgers game of the season, and the tarp's on the fucking field 40 minutes after the scheduled start time.

There's gonna be another "update" at 8:45, so at best it won't start until after 9 p.m.

IT'S SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, DAMMIT! :grr:

1. But is it raining where YOU are?
That, after all, is the important question. :)

2. It sure is, my dear Oeditpus Rex!
And that means......anything can, and probably will, happen!

I'm sorry!

The rain does seem to have stopped........

4. But you're in... Manhattan Beach?
That's like 15 miles from Dodger Stadium.

Radio dude just said the tarp's still on the field and it's drizzling. :grr:

6. True, I am in Manhattan Beach......
Somehow I was thinking that the distance wouldn't make that much difference.....

Alas......

Wish I could blow the rain away for you.....

8. You're too damned clever tonight
The Giants station has a promo with "Let It Rain" playing in the background. Dude goes, "SCREW Eric Clapton!" and drags the needle across the record. "We're so sick of this rain, we could go to Seattle and dry off!"

7. It's the Giants fault
It's been raining like crazy up here in the bay area (two of the Astros games were rained out), we finally get a break (two days in a row! wow!!) and they go down to LA and look what they did.

9. Yeah, took it with 'em
I loved the doubleheader yesterday, though. Since the Dodgers had a day game in Pittsburgh, I got to listen to three games in one day.

10. I almost tried to go to the night game
but after seeing the final score (didn't watch it) I'm glad I didn't bother. Some fan huh? Not even a fair weather fan lol

11. If you were ever gonna go to a night game in SF
last night woulda been the one.

Well... except that Oswalt shut 'em down. But at least they got a split out of it, which is a helluva lot better than not gettin' to play at all.

12. And aside from the Dodgers, there's no other team besides
the Astros that I don't mind losing to.

Last year I got one of those "Beat L.A." caps they gave out when the Dodgers were in town... and I can't bring myself to wear it.

13. It's a great, great rivalry
I was raised in a mixed-race home — my dad was a Giants fan.

You don't see it so much anymore, because guys switch teams so much that personal rivalries don't get as much chance to percolate. But in the '60s and '70s, there was always this tension at Giants-Dodgers games, and weird things happened frequently.

Dog, I love it.

WOOHOO! The tarp's off the field! :bounce:

14. Well see, in the (late) 60s and 70s I was a Dodger fan
because I grew up in LA. It was hard to switch loyalty when I moved up here, but I had been away from baseball for so long (no fun going to Dodger Stadium, imho) but I actually enjoy, no, LOVE, going to the games up here.

He's gonna get booed everywhere he plays for a while. Except for SF. It's just gonna be a matter of degree...

Couldn't happen to a more deserving fella....

But this is Bonds -- the most reviled man in baseball right now. I'm no fan of his and, quite honestly, I wish he'd just retire with some grace and dignity, but I don't like this.

28. He may have to
Some columnist reported today Bonds told him he's got floating bone chips in his elbow and it's "twice the size" of his other one. Said he's got to play through it because if he has to have surgery, he's finished.

29. He's only gonna play until he gets those 7 home runs
I think that's how many he needs (I'd check but everytime I try mlb.com from here, my computer freezes). Once he does, he's going to retire within a week.

32. Heh
With that gigantic ego of his, they'll have to carry him (and it) off the field on a stretcher -- and go back for his arm (or knee or whatever). I'd kinda like to see him get to the break without hitting more than one or two...see what he does then.

33. You mean when he *still* gets voted in?
Because Giants/Bonds fans will stuff the box and he'll be a starter even though he'll have played about 50 games, half of them pinch-hitting? Yeah, what'll he say about that? :eyes:

34. He might get voted in
but I'll betcha he doesn't start. Houston manager...what's his name...damn...will be managing the NL team and he might -- MIGHT -- use him as dh or to pinch hit...but he won't start.

38. If the NL wants to win for a change...
He'd better manage with his head and not let the fans do it for him.

Y'know...I'm not sure where it's gonna be -- I know I've heard, but I can't think of it now. Heh...it'll come to me about an hour after I fall asleep.

It does help when one person stays in one place!

I'm flipping back and forth tonight, between here and the Dem Warrior....

I've decided to broaden my focus! I think it will be healthier for me...

I'll tell you all about it tomorrow......

Check your PM in a few......

Good ball game. Wasn't cheap, wasn't a joke.

Helps a bit that Vizquel scored the eventual winning run. I saw him play his first season in pro ball. Even then, you knew he was something special.
