Some of ya'll have a lot of time/patience
to go back through pages and pages of threads to find all of those posted by a certain person and kick them (and kick everything else off the frontpage). It was annoying the other day, and act two (retaliation?) is just as annoying today.

Okay - so I am a wee bit grouchy today. Just offering a space for anyone else feeling a little grumpy/grouchy to be able to vent.

1. my guess is that they just bookmark the thread
at least this is what I hope they do because searching for it every time would be a pain in the butt.

Why the grouchy feeling today? It's my b-day today so I can't be grouchy.

2. Happy Birthday, Gloria!
 Hope you are doing something fun to celebrate!

That would be a whole lot of bookmarks (when I logged on there were something like fifteen or more recently kicked up old threads...) sure would try my patience to dig for threads with such diligence, so perhaps you are right.

3. Thank you!
I'm trying really hard to not be grouchy. My husband is in Amsterdam on business (and I'm not!), my daughter has pink eye and my name was left off the "Happy Birthday Wishes to" lounge thread.

Friends are taking me out to dinner tonight though so that will be fun!

As for the kicked threads, we're in agreement. They drive me nuts. ;)

giving her their birthday info...so if she didn't know or if you didn't give it, I am sure the omission was unintentional...at any rate, have a great dinner tonight...sorry about the pink eye and the hubby....go celebrate your existance :D

I certainly don't think it was intentional and I think it's extremely generous of NY to do what she does for DUers every day. I will definitely ho out and celebrate me tonight! lol :D

On the bright side, weekend birthdays are great when your bday is on April 15th...it's the only time your bday isn't also tax day. ;)

12. HA!
When I was little, my parents use to tell me that it was ok to have my birthday on tax day because I was tax deductible. It took me a while to figure out why my teachers would always laugh at my answer when the kids were asked about bdays. I always gave the disclaimer: "My birthday is on April 15th but that's ok because I'm tax deductible!" I was just so damn proud...had no idea that ALL kids were tax deductible. :D

7. Every once in a great while
I will kick one of my old threads, but it won't be more than about 12 hours old. I do that to respond to people who have posted in one of my threads when I wasn't there.

I don't do that for my frivolous posts- just my "Stories from the Road" or other serious posts. Most of the time if I see someone who has posted in one of my threads when I wasn't there and think that they'd like a response I will just PM them.

I have observed the junior-highization of the lounge from afar , with a combination of annoyance and resignation.

Take a look at the posting numbers of DU some time.
Then there's that whole de-intellectualization taking place via the "GD" disdain.

It's inevitable, there are lots of people with lots of time on their hands. Quality is not a concept they understand.

Or Yaks, either.

59. funny how things morph
I started this just to talk about an annoyance with a new 'trend' of picking someone's threads to kick back to the front of the lounge until those threads are about all that is read. Didn't have anything to do with the personality of those whose posts were kicked - it was just an early after waking up, not having enough coffee, grumpy post.

Who knew how it might morph.

Then that is one of the interesting facets of the lounge :D

69. thanks - I was just being generally grumpy
:D

The only two times in the last week I had enough time to 'hang' in the lounge - were two times when these little kickups were going on. I wanted to catch up on what was going on with loungies, or answer silly polls... not being able to (due to the plethora of kicked up threads of a single poster - being kicked by folks other than the poster) just made me cranky :D

Wasn't about particular personalities. Just hoping the practice (kicking up gazilliios of another poster's threads) doesn't become a lounge fad. :D

When you have a few threads yourself that could be considered spam. You don't like Billy's "Goodnight" threads? Fine. I wonder how many people couldn't put you on their ignore list fast enough with some of your useless threads. Just what makes a ZombyCoffee thread worth not ignoring you for, anyway?

47. Truth be told
I KNOW much of my Lounge shit IS useless. Including the coffee threads. I am quite healthy in that I do not tie in my self-image with how people respond to my threads at DU. If people want to think my Lounge threads are spam, I would hope they would tell me to my face as you just did. :-)

And in turn, there are MANY people here I WISH would put me on ignore. As fast as possible.

The sad irony is that too many of the people who should put me on ignore do not. There is nothing I can do about that, and I will live. :-)

Strange place indeed. I posted this in the am. HOURS later left the computer and there were maybe two posts on the thread. About to drop off the page - I assumed it died.

Come back eight hours later - suddenly a flame fest. Strange place this lounge, indeed.

For the record - I would find it annoying in someone kicked up old salin threads to fill the lounge - same principle - new messages/threads ought to have a chance to be aired. But maybe that is just me...

But if the threads weren't created in the first place, there would be little for the kicker to do.

Besides, the spamming I am referring to isn't confined to the good night threads, it's ALL of them, day after day.

Anyone who has known me on DU for the years I have been on here knows I am not shy about sharing an unpopular view once in awhile.

I am not here much - but in this past week happened to have a little time in the lounge on those two days... was commenting on the annoying effect of the little 'game' .... to where most new threads got kicked off the front page quickly because someone was playing a game on another poster - per the kick back old threads.

32. As I said to supernova and SugarSmack
I did not accuse him of kicking hs own threads.

I will repeat this in case a fourth or fifth poster weighs in...

I did not accuse him of kicking his own threads.

But he posts a lot of things every day that added up to clogging up the first few pages to the point where I couldn't look at it anymore, lol. This sentiment predates the recent episode salin alludes to by months.

I don't doubt he is the nicest guy in the world. But not everyone is for everyone's taste.

I just wanted t add my two cents on top of salin's. I sahred her view, and added mine. But I did not accuse him of kicking his own threads.

So I am not incorrect here... although it may not be proper to be amused by the shitstorm my opinion can engender.

I also think nice people can annoy the shit out of me, at least on here. I may feel differently if I knew him in real life, where we could get along famously for all I know. But as you know, I have always been a pain in the ass about these things. ;-)

And, here's what I'll do. I'll go back and convince myself one way or another, against the pm, if what you said to me is what you said to him. And then I'm wrestle with the idea that you even bothered to PM me if you were upfront and open about the things you thought. And then I'll tackle the idea that you think it's somehow okay to do this, publicly and/or privately, and then go off the handle about others behaviour, and call yourself a nice guy.

I wouldn't call anything I have said in this thread as being "off the handle". I am rather mellow, and have been laughing at the whole mess.

But what I said was all upfront, in public. And it does not make me "not nice" just because I call a misogynist out.

I am not so careless with my PM's these days. I think people should either figure shit out on their own, or not.

experienced anything resembling misogyny from this friend, your 'warning' was off the mark. I may be in the dark about many things, but you've certainly enlightened me on some subjects. Don't worry.

Nothing you've said in this thread is off the handle, but you've gone off previously. Hey, do it all you want, but don't be surprised when someone calls you on doing the exact same thing in the past.

Right now, I'm being upfront, and telling you in public, that you aren't nice. You are hypocritical, and you can't keep hiding behind this "I'm just being honest" crap. My friend isn't a misogynist, and billy doesn't deserve public condemnation from someone like you.

Maybe you should let other people figure things out for themselves instead of slandering people in PM's to users you hardly know. If you've stopped, I'm glad to hear it.

She has a good case, and I respect her opinion to the extent that I disavow the disagreeable opinions I posted.

I formally apologize to billyskank, whom I have no grudge or disagreement with. :toast:

67. So, should I post this to my journal?
all of the posts on the thread might make my journal kick up into a well read journal range?

*just thinking that snarky was a good way to end a thread that was snarky to begin with*

73. lol - only problem is
that then I would have a snarky thread in my journal - which I try to make thoughtful... have to weigh the costs and benefits out ;-) But I will let you know if I take the plunge (so that we can do the cross posting thing ;-) )

Btw - :hi: !!

80. Easy to do...
short recap. Several days ago one poster decided it would be funny to kick up (pre archive) a ton of threads, posted over a period of time, from another poster - to the point where the front page of the lounge was dominated by these threads. Several days later - the suspect behind the kicking episode becomes the focus of a kick-up of old threads campaign.

I come in - as a grouchy morning person who hadn't yet had coffee - expressing annoyance at the trend going on towards kicking up a person's old posts... mainly because I really, really hope this doesn't become a regular game in the lounge. Kicking tons of posts off the front page of the lounge - is irratating/annoying for many.
