How much do you tip the pizza delivery person?
I graduated from a dollar and change guy to a 2 dollar guy a little while back. Should I up my tips again? I live near Dayton, Ohio where the cost of living isn't real high.

1. i usually tip at least a couple of dollars
if the weather is bad or it's a holiday, i tip more

while i have never been a delivery driver, many of my friends have been, so i'm pretty liberal with my tips

3. A couple of bucks.
It also depends on how much the order was. I like to think of myself as a generous tipper.

4. Yeah
My order usually comes to 10-15 bucks. If I have a large order I will tip more.

5. Usually around $2.
Come to think of it, maybe I should round it up higher due to gas prices these days.

Speaking of which, are delivery drivers still reimbursed for gas?

6. Some pizza places charge extra for delivery
I don't know how much of the surcharge gets transfered to the drivers, though.

10. The Papa John's near my place started charging recently.
I really can't blame them.

7. Usually around $3-$4..
An extra-large peperonni pizza normally costs me about $16, so I just give the driver a $20 and have him keep the change.

9. Yes, $10.
I used to drive pizza and I know how it is, plus gas is twice as expensive as when I drove.

Here is a great site: http://www.tipthepizzaguy.com

I've delivered pizzas as well and I never got anything that good. I bet they love you or think you are drunk! Rock on, Lady. Rock on.

I just see it as us working folks taking care of each other - and I seem to get my pizza in a hurry, too! :D

22. From that site:
Do they earn the tip?

Absolutely. Drivers perform a service by bringing dinner to your door. They take on financial costs and difficulties, more than most people realize. Pizza delivery is considered a hazardous job by the US government. They are third most likely to be murdered on the job, right after police officer and taxi driver.

So tips go toward their funeral fund...?

12. OMG am I overtipping?
I tip more like $5 and the cost of living is low here too.

I knew someone a LONG time ago who delivered pizza and he worked for tips only. So I never know how much else they're making - plus they're paying for gas and upkeep on their cars.

15. I don't think there's such a thing as overtipping
But there is probably an low range appropriate tip. Keep giving out them $5 tips. I think the average pizza delivery person probably makes minimum wage in addition to his/her tips so the more the better.

16. Yes, most places pay drivers minimum + tips, so tips are the majority
of their income, such as it is.

17. Depends on the order. usually $2-3
I tip more if I order for a party or if the service is particularly good. Or if there's something annoying on my end. (i.e. barking dogs).

Otherwise, I tip 2-3. I almost never order more than one pizza, so I think that's about 15% or so.

18. Before we went vegan we would when we ordered...
And we were generous, even if there was a mistake, simply because it wasn't the drivers fault.

We befriended a manager at the store we ordered from and were asking about comments on the tickets and she said that they put comments in the personal fields of the customers, too. I asked what ours was. She looked it up. Great tippers!
