DUers! I summon your opinionated selves...
Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 10:50 PM by MrsGrumpy
Here is another house I have found:

It's on 2.6 acres with a deeded access...way back up in the woods of Brandon Twp.,MI (60 miles N. of Detroit). A long, steep drive up and there it is, in a clearing;woods all around. On our way in to see it, we met a baby red eared turtle and there were two pheasants wandering around out back. It is 3200 s.f., hardwood floors, a decent kitchen and stone fireplace...and a 4 car garage, for MrG that didn't make it into the picture. I have tons more, but won't bore you with them. The master bedroom has an Anderson double paned, floor to ceiling window, overlooking the trees and a pond. It is...beautiful, and we think we may make another offer on yet another home. Yet another stop in our quest to fulfill a dream. A little less land than before but a lot more trees.

1. I haven't seen any of your other possibilities but this one looks nice....
Depending on price etc , of course, but it looks like a place I could be comfortable in. Newer than my house, but with a charm all its own.

4. It's value is $385,000...it is marketed at $250,000.
I don't care for newer homes much, but we're looking for room and bigger older homes are hard to find, and costly. :)

42. HOLY CRAP! $385,000 *might* buy you a 2 Bed condo in my neighborhood.
We could sell our place right now and probably put 50% down on that place. Don't worry, we won't though. The commute would be a bear! ;)

2. Is it in a rural subdivision or is it isolated?
To me, having more land would be the most important thing.

It's a cute house--the front needs some landscaping.

What's that on the left side of the garage? What part of the house is that?

5. It is surrounded by State land. The left side of the garage that
you can't see has more land and trees. There are no neighbors directly next to us on either side. Actually, at the road, all you see is a mailbox...we missed it the first time we drove past. There are two bonus rooms over each of the garages. The second garage was an add on in 2003.

15. Ok, in that case...
I LOVE IT. A little landscaping would do wonders for the front of the house...it looks like it needs someone to show it a little love.

A pond in back, you say? When am I invited to go fishing with the Grumpies???

:hi:

17. Yes it has a pond, and you are always welcome!
:hi:

It actually has all of its base landscaping and a few lovely Japanese maples in back that I would bring forward. And the rocks...I could go on and on about all of the rocks they put in. :D

garage to save on costs. It can be a very cold place.

8. My dear MrsGrumpy.....
This looks wonderful to me!

The size of the place, the woods all around, the PRIVACY!

I can't comment on the price, since California prices are not comparable at all!

Over 2 and a half acres? Sounds pretty big to me! I'd buy it, if I were you......

Given what you've said here tonight.....

:hi:

11. Thank you Peggy! It's actually a really great deal.
$100,000 or more less than it's assessed value because of the foreclosure and a bit of a grading issue that is easily fixed. I would so love to remove myself from urban life for a bit. I miss having space.

Looks like it will have a good guestroom for those DUers that drop in for a visit! :)

I love the wooded area and the pond, it is beautiful.

If you put in an offer, you can count on my prayers that it works out. Don't forget to bury St. Joseph in your yard.

Good luck, sweetie  :loveya:

20. Sometimes, the fact that seeming strangers appear to really care about
your life can comfort you (at least it has been important to me). DU has certainly given me enormous support when I most needed it. Finding the right home for your family is about the biggest gamble you can take and, thank God, we (here) are not facing it for at least a few years. But, since you are now in that position, I know you're grounded enough to make the right choice.

I've read your posts for a long time. You're a very solid person. I look forward to hearing about your new home!

35. That's a good idea.
It took us 77 days to get an offer on ours and we were really relieved that the buyer didn't add the sale of his house as a contingency. Wouldn't it be great if you found your dream house the same day you get an offer on your current house? It could happen!

I know what you're going through, MrsG. Moving is hard enough without all the extra stress.

41. I like it - a few questions
how old is the home? If it's newer, is the framing 2x6 or 2x4? (2x6 is considered better)

how big is the master bedroom? (we had an old house before with a huge master bedroom, and we miss it now, even though our overall house is bigger & newer)

Are all the windows Anderson, or just the MBR window?

The roof looks new, which is good.

As somebody above said, some shrubs up front will make it really look great.
