'Make Your Own' Pizza places: Do any still exist? |
|
I remember in my youth in suburban Maryland there were places where you could put together your own deep dish pizza and they'd bake it for you.
You'd start with a crust, put a little oil and tomato sauce on the bottom, and then you could add various layers of whatever you wanted, cheeses, sausage/pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, other veggies etc.
Of course, as young men we'd pile it as high as humanly possible, to try and set the world's record for calories per slice. It would eventually bake down into something it looked like a human could eat. Of course the pizza would be so insanely rich that you could eat about a slice and a half max, and then have food for a week, LOL.
Those were good times but I haven't seen anything like this for many a year. Any places like this where you are?

Of course I haven't really looked.

2. You can't put a cucumber on a pizza. |
|
Pizza begins with the dough. It's a pizza before you bake it.

I don't know why this exchange between you two is so funny to me, but I audibly laughed at it and startled the dog.
 :spray:

7. The full Seinfeld exchange...from "The Couch" episode Season 6 |
|
This takes place after Poppie and Elaine argue abortion and Elaine causes a walkout of all the women in the restaurant because Poppie is pro-life.
KRAMER (in a chef's hat and apron): See, anybody can do this.
POPPIE: Use your wrist! It's all in the wrist. Not too high!
KRAMER (puts the dough on the counter): Alright, put a little sauce on here... Some cheese...
POPPIE: Not too much!
KRAMER: And...cucumbers!
POPPIE: Wait a second...what is that?
KRAMER: It's cucumbers.
POPPIE: No, no. You can't put cucumbers on a pizza.
KRAMER: Well, why not? I like cucumbers.
POPPIE: That's not a pizza. It'll taste terrible.
KRAMER: But that's the idea, you make your own pie.
POPPIE: Yes, but we cannot give the people the right to choose any topping they want! Now on this issue there can be no debate!
KRAMER: What gives you the right to tell me how I would make my pie?
POPPIE: Because it's a pizza!
KRAMER: It's not a pizza until it comes out of the oven!
POPPIE: It's a pizza the moment you put your fists in the dough!
KRAMER: No, it isn't!
POPPIE: Yes, it is!
