I don't think Conan O'Brien is very funny anymore
I remember several years ago saying to a friend "Conan's show is the funniest show on tv. They have the most brilliant writers."

Now, he seems mostly just annoying. The squeaky eyebrow thing and the string dance and all that.

Was Andy Richter really that important to the show? It seems the show's decline starting about the time Richter left.

When AR left, there was talk that maybe he would be replaced with Sarah Silverman. Now, THAT would have made for an explosive show. It seems that Max Weinberg is a nice enough guy, but he is probably the most boring sidekick in the history of television.

Nowadays if I'm watching TV at the hour, I'm tuned to the Scottish guy. His monologues are almost always funny, and, seem almost extemporaneous.

1. I LOVE Craig Feurgeson! (sp?)
He is so damned funny. Sometimes I record the show just for the monologue.

4. He's my favorite late night tv guy.
I think it's spelled Ferguson.

7. yeah, the monologue is by far the best part of the show
The guy is a high-school dropout, but he seems like a genius... a Renaissance man of sorts.

I do find his recent tendency to greet his audience with "Shave it, oil it, get it ready for me" to be a little off-putting... but still kind of funny, I guess.

By the way, CF will be on his bosses show Wednesday night to discuss his new novel. Might be fun.

2. Seems like a nice guy but I have never thought he was funny
I have just never thought he was all that funny. I have seen and read some funny stuff that has been on his show and some "oh that is clever" type stuff but it seems to be few and far between. The fake mouth thing and literally putting words in people's mouths has never been funny.

I have watched several times hoping to see what all the fuss is about but mostly it appears to be a guy laughing at his own jokes.

Just one man's opinion.

6. along those lines...
Conan's "Real Items" or whatever it's called, is pretty lame. It's a takeoff on Leno's "Headlines" or Dave's late "Small-Town News." It was funny the first few times I saw it, but he's been doing it for years and years. I'm a Letterman guy, but sometimes I tune into Leno for a few minutes to watch Headlines, because I think some of those real items are hilarious. (Though, I strongly suspect that Leno's staff must place some of those really twisted classified ads themselves.)

I never thought "If They Mated" was funny, even when it was brand new. These years later, it's still not.

9. well, I guess he's still funny
Just not as funny as he used to be. His strength was always as a writer, in my opinion, and not so much as a performer.

I have no agenda against CO, and certainly not against his fans. If he floats your boat, all I have to say is "Happy Sailing!" :)

5. I wonder if he's reinventing himself for his eventual 11:30 gig
He is due to take over Leno's job in 2008 right? Maybe he's trying to be a little less zany and quirky to fit the bill.

I never thought that was a good idea, but good for him if he thinks he can do it. His brand of humor is much better suited for the 12:30 time slot though.

And he was the writer behind some of the most brilliant Simpsons episodes ever made.

8. I think you may be on to something
He is set to take over the Tonight Show, but I don't remember when. 2008 seems about right though.

Seems to me the show started to slide before the deal was announced. But it's certainly possible he knew about it well before the public did.

It's cool for him. Taking over Late Night With David Letterman, then taking over the Tonight Show. Nice resume. ;)

10. I never thought Conan was funny.
His bits remind me of junior high kids trying to be funny. And now he is more ass-kissing with his guests than he used to be. And I LOVE Craig Ferguson.

11. I like Conan well enough but
Craig has one me over lately. It seems like Conan takes as many breaks as W. Ok that's an exaggeration but not by much. He was off almost the whole month of February for the Olympics. Came back for one week then was off for a week and it's reruns again this week. Lately i've been tuning in to Conan just long enough to see who's going to be on then flipping over to CBS. Only other channel I get worth checking out late at night is TBS if they have a decent movie on otherwise that's it.

13. i use to watch him and it was one of the best shows
it was in the earlier years. i haven't really watched any of the shows since Andy left. i think i stopped watching a bit before just because i didn't have time.

but in the early years i always looked forward to it. it was so different and they did things that others didn't do. i liked how he made fun of his show's attracting B list guests.

i'm not sure Sarah Silverman would have made it better. i don't really find her that funny. but i have to admit i haven't watched much of her so i could be wrong.

as others said, it could have to do with working on the transition he will make to the Tonight Show.

20. Too bad.
I was only joking in my previous post. I want her president song to get exposure as wide as possible.

I saw Pink on some show recently, can't remember what it was. She did the Stupid girls there too. Maybe "Dear Mr. President" will get some exposure soon.

17. You mean he once was...?
:wow: :sarcasm:

I watched one of his first shows, and found him smug, irritating, and not at all funny.

Every so often, I would tune in, only to have my initial opinion confirmed.
