Please help me give some props to EstimatedProphet
He has been an amazing support to me since the day we met. Literally.

And now, since I've hurt my back in January, he's had to deal with my inability to do much of the things I had always done for myself - from simple stuff to major "I need taken care of" stuff. I'm trying to let my body recover since my back surgery (which will be 3 weeks tomorrow) but I'm still not back to my old self. Heck, I'm not even close to being back to my old self yet. I'm tired all the time - every little thing I do wears me out. I sleep, and sleep, and sleep. I have gone back to work this week b/c it's the last full week of classes but it's really wiping me out. And I hate to always have to ask him for EVERYTHING I need. He does it all for me, happily, but I still feel guilty for being such a burden. It's been a long road for the both of us and I know he could use a little pat of the back from some of you wonderful DUers.

I've thanked him every single day for all that he does for me. Will you help me give him some DU love?

28. Hey you!
We're looking forward to getting out of this apartment for some fun!!

The other day, when I had to go to my doctor appointment, I felt like I had woken up from hibernating and spring had sprung! There were buds and blooms and it was beautiful outside. I hadn't seen the outside of this apartment for too darn long (you can't count the ambulance ride to the ER, 'cause I wasn't paying any attention!).

4. EP is the real deal
A kind, generous human being with a big heart. I'll admit that it took me a few months to get there - I gave him a bit of a hard time when he was a mod (sorry for that, EP). I'm glad he gave me another chance - I feel lucky to know him.

You too, you know. You radiate kindness, my dear. I hope things get better for you.

There is no doubt in my mind that EP is one of DU's finest. From the interaction I have had with him offline and on DU as a mod and a poster it's easy to see that he is one hell of a person.

7. Major DU love coming right up!
He has been very good for you, and you DESERVE it!

Healing from injury/surgery takes a long time.....Be gentle with yourself...

I know it's difficult to do that, but you must let your body come along in it's own sweet time....

It WILL!

Let him help you...he wants to.....he loves you!

33. There is, indeed, hope
I found him after looking for 30 years! We ended up getting to know the same friend in Washington, D.C. after years of living in different states and never having the opportunity to meet. The minute we met, we knew we had a connection. Every now and then, I'll say "what took you so long to find me?" It was worth the wait. He's very much a wonderful partner.

Here's the funny thing: the minute I stopped looking and was focusing on my career, he popped up. It's weird how those things happen.

Good luck to you and your kind heart.

20. Hey there, asthmaticeog
I do feel better - the muscle spasms are much less frequent and much less painful. But, I am so damn tired all the time.

Yesterday, I taught two 50-minute classes back-to-back. In between them, I absolutely had to sit down b/c I felt kinda sweaty and a little weird (not like I'd pass out, but like I was just not right). I looked in the mirror after I got done with the second one and my face was bright red - I was very flushed and I put on the fan that's in my office (even though it was not hot in the building and I wasn't overdressed or anything like that). I called EP to pick me up (I still am not allowed to drive). I thought I would throw up when I got home (but I didn't - thanks to Saltines). I took off all of my clothes, laid in bed, and I slept almost the entire rest of the day and night!

Today, I taught a class from 9:05-10:30am this morning. That went well, but I wanted to lay down for a few minutes when I got home. Then, I had a 1:10-2:25 class in which my students are doing presentations (it's an upper-division class about the psychology of gender, which rocks, by the way). I sat the entire time and felt fine - the presentations went well; these students are the best I've had. I left as soon as class was over, came home, ate something quickly, put up this thread, and I absolutely had to sleep until just now and I could sleep some more, but the nerve in my left leg gets edgy (or so I call it) and it will not let me find a comfy spot sometimes.

I keep telling myself that it could be worse. That helps me keep my perspective and helps me not to feel sorry for myself (although it's easy to peek down that road). :)

How the hell are you, by the way?

I forgot to tell you in earlier threads that caffeine, as well as fluids, is good against those spinal headaches. Oh well.

24. The leg pain is getting better - it's still has its moments of rebellion
But now I talk to it like it's a person and say stuff like, "I'm just trying to put my jeans on for crying out loud. What do you want from me?" That helps. :)

Plus, I've found that listening to David Sedaris read ANYTHING he has written is like taking a pain pill - you just can't be miserable while he describes how "6 to 8 black men work with Santa in the Netherlands" (if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you really need to introduce yourself to his work. The man is a freaking genius!

BTW, I'm sort of addicted to caffeine anyway (hot tea), plus we had read up about how it can help with the spinal headaches, so I did try that tactic. Thanks, though. :pals:
