Are you one of those people who replies to every reply in your own thread? |
|
I'm just wondering if it's considered "cool" to do that or if people who do that are secretly mocked and ridiculed.... :-)
(I have been tempted to do it)

But then again I don't get a ton of replies either. I think it is nice to reply to everyone and I certainly do if I'm not involved in something else at the same time.

5. I do it when it seems to be appropriate. |
|
Other times I don't. I hate to reply to only a few people, and ignore others, so I often respond to everyone at least once. And if that makes me mock-able, so be it!

I feel I sometimes should reply to the posts, especially if they ask a question. It's rude not to. Although sometimes I'm just rude and post then sign off.

I do try to be considerate of those who have taken the time to post in a thread of mine and reply when appropriate. Especially if it's to thank those who have wished me well when I needed good thoughts and prayers.

or somethin' like that, then I try to. It seems the polite thing to do.
Otherwise, it can drag out a thread beyond its useful life span.

I don't start that many threads myself and I like to respond to those who thought enough to comment on my thread. If it's an older thread, over a day or so old, I let it alone unless someone else makes a late response.

23. I've only posted once. Yes, I responded to each reply |
|
If I posted regularly or multi-posted, responding to every reply probably would not make sense. Let alone just trying to keep up.
I chose to respond to everyone both as a courtesy and as an expression of thanks for taking the time to read and reply to what I had to say. :)

24. I never do that in GD |

but I often do in the Lounge because it's just more fun, and people sometimes put a lot of thought into a funny answer, etc. I tend to hit and run in GD but most of my posts are questions and I usually end up by thanking everybody for helping me out.

25. I absolutely do respond to everyone....... |
|
I consider it my (almost) duty to do so.....
I mean, why did I start it? It is the considerate thing to do.....
Now, when the thread is down on page 2, and it's the next day.....well, then I won't.
I'll PM the last responder or two, then.
A couple of people have told me that they really like how I respond.....
It's hard to resist that sort of feedback!
BTW, a VERY belated welcome to DU!
I live in LA county, out in Manhattan Beach.....Where are you located?
I love meeting DU'ers!

29. It depends on the post and the context |
|
when I see a breaking news item - that I think folks should read, no.
when I post an idea I haver been having about how news / stories link on GD, I try to respond depending on time.
Often I only have a short window of time to post on DU - if I felt I had to respond to every post, I would never post a thread - as there are times I run across something worth posting, but know I will not be on-line again for 12 or 16 hours.
When I post something in the lounge, I am more likeliy to do it when I have time to respond, and if it is a vanity thread I try to respond.
Per secret mocking and ridicule... who knows. If/when it might happen, one can't win.. because the verdict can go either way (too much, or too little) I believe it is best not to worry about these things.

I don't know if it's considered "cool" or not to do that, but I look at posts as the same as either making a statement or asking a question out loud, so answering/responding/acknowledging is the right thing to do in most cases.

...to answer every post, but sometimes it just doesn't work. The thread that sticks out in my mind where I answered every response was my mother's condolence thread and that was part therapy, part (to be honest) looking for sympathy.

It is never intentional. I also don't want to look like I am inflating my thread's post count. So I mean no harm... but invariably it leads to slighted feelings. To compensate, I may send a PM because I feel I slighted someone, when it occurs to me later.
