Crack down on dog walkers in Tehran - that does it for me! |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 08:54 AM by leftyladyfrommo
I know that Muslim's think dogs are unclean. But arresting people for walking their dogs is just the straw that broke the camels back.
Starting to sound like China where people have to pay huge amounts of money in order to own a dog.
I will go out and find the link. We need to nuke Iran if that is how they treat dog owners. Really.

1. Probably No One Else Cares About This |
|
But I feel that how a country treats its animals (especially my favorite - dogs) is a sure sign of how civilized they are.
Oh, and they are also craking down on the way women dress. Back to the head scarves and long black robes for them.
That is also another true sign of how civilized a country is. If women have to wear long black everything then its not going to be a good place for women to live. That is a dead givaway.

2. Iran is fucked up anyway. |
|
:D
Read Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi. It's a good story of life in the "Islamic Republic," or whatever they call themselves these days, and how kooked up they all are over there. It's also a very deep reflection of Western literature and how it compares to life anywhere, not just in Iran.

3. Strange, because Prophet Muhammad treated dogs well |
|
Yes, dogs were considered unclean animals; but the Prophet still treated dogs with kindness and respected them for their abilities. He even upbraided some early Muslims because of their treatment of stray dogs.
Once again, some people miss the forest for the trees.

It's just that I have been reading all this stuff about the way women are treated in the middle east - and a lot of it isn't good. I don't know why any woman would even want to travel there.
But then I saw that they were even going after people who walk their dogs and I thought that this has to be the most rediculous culture on the face of the earth.
And why are we even over there at all. They don't want democracy. Probably never wanted democracy. So lets just pack up and go home and stay there where we belong.

5. War is not so great for dogs, either |
|
When the inevitable shortages of food and water happen, the dogs go unfed before the children do. When families die or flee, thier companion animals are often left behind.
I mean, I love animals as much as anybody, but the idea that we should nuke a country because it's rulers treat dogs like shit is crazy, unless they have some sort of radiation-proof breed over there.
There are a whole hell of a lot of unwalked, mistreated and unloved dogs in this country too and we're in a much better position to do something about thier plight, though the sheer number still makes for an overwhelming task. Let's focus on that for now and set an example for the rest of the world.

7. I was just being a smart-ass. |

War isn't good for anyone or anything. Especially people and animals.
I just don't understand why this adm. is so against just talking to people. That seems to work pretty well in lots of cases.
But I wish we could do more in the world to help the animals. They are treated so badly in so many places (including Kansas City some of the time).
