I need the help of some Louisiana folks, please

I am interested in spending some time on the coast this summer doing volunteer work with Katrina victims; I don't care what I have to do, and I can sleep in a sleeping bag--- I can pick up trash, and clean with the best of them--I don't care if I break a nail or two.

That said, everything I have looked at through my church involves New Orleans. God knows, I adore New Orleans---however, I am wondering if there are other areas--smaller towns--that need work done.

Ideas? Thoughts?

OK...I am not kidding about this: that state has the most gorgeous rest stop on the highway EVER. It is so pretty I made my entire family stop, get a cup of coffee and walk around.

And right now, NOLA needs the help desparately, the City Council just passed an ordinance to that provides that they can take the land if not cleared by August 29th.

These folks need help NOW.

Also Bay St. Louis, Waveland and Pass Christian need help.

The volunteer groups that intheflow works with are working in all of these areas.

intheflow, usedtobesick, uppityperson have all come here to work as volunteers and I have had the pleasure of meeting them.

LydiaLeftcoast also worked and lived in a volunteer camp, but I wasn't able to catch up with her.

HandsOnAmerica is the best group -- you would love living with them at their compound -- it was so neat to visit and eat dinner with them and explain to them what hushpuppies were. :rofl:
